There's someone who prefers just about every shape out there. You can find picture and/or porno websites dedicated to thinner girls, heavier girls, and just about any other body variation you could think of. That should tell you something.

But on average, guys like girls who look fertile & healthy. On average guys like their girls to be a little chubbier than the girls usually want their guys to be, but definitely not totally huge either. The ideal is usually not a specific weight number or dress size, but just a general "right" area that varies a little depending on the person.

For example, it's well documented that the waist/hip ratio for women is preferable in the 2/3 category regardless of what specific weight that indicates for any certain girl. It's no coincidence that this particualar shape ratio has also been linked to better health & fertility for girls.

Boobs get attention (and so do butts in some circles), but don't think TOO hard about it. Big boobs on a girl are sorta like a guy being very rich or something. It's somthing to giggle a little extra about when it's there, but it's not like it totally dominates a man's every waking thought about his girl's body.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 October 2007):

I think the question should be expanded to better define curvy or skinny. Not meaning to insult here but some girls feel Michelle Mcmanus (or Kirstie Alley pre weight loss) is curvy. Using a celeb as an example I would say my definition of curvy is Kate Winslet or Beyonce. Skinny to me is one of the Olsen twins (I forget the skinnier one's name) or Paris Hilton.

Or just going by dress size - British size 12 to 16 (american 8 to 12) would be curvy. Anything above these is well...fat.

Danielepew agony auntIt's a matter of personal preference. However, most men prefer women who are far "curvier" than the so-called beauty ideal.

hugs2muchgal agony auntMy boyfriend likes a girl with a little meat on her. Not stick thin, not overweight, a girl with breasts and a butt and hips (which I love since I can eat around him). Men like women who eat, who are confident in themselves, and who don't complain (at least usually). A great personality is way more important than any body type.

just-ask-xx agony auntEvery guy has a different view, but don't diet just for a boy, if he doesn't like you for who you are, the forget him, he's not worth it and your looks aren't the most important things, a guy should be more interested in what's in your mind, not on your body, reply if you want to, to say if you think it's good or bad advice or whatever really :) love just-ask-xx

I prefer curvy. Sort of like goldilocks I would like a woman who is not fat or skinny, just somewhere in the middle weight.

kenny agony auntThats a hard question to answer because every guy has got different tastes and types when it comes to the female sex. Some guys like large girls, some curvy, some skinny. But personally i would choose curvy over skinny.

All the best x

A female reader, gf123 United Kingdom +, writes (6 October 2007):

gf123 agony auntHi there,

I think this is just a question of preference. Men have different ideas of what is attractive when it comes to womens' figures.

What I can safely say is that men do not find it attractive for a woman to be very thin. This is not a healthy way to be and shows that a woman is perhaps not very confident with her own personality. I've also read a lot of interviews with men who like to see their girlfriends enjoying food rather than constantly complaining about dieting.

I think the best advice to a woman is to be yourself. Try to be healthy but concentrate on your personality rather than putting too much emphasis on your weight. Although physical attraction is important at the beginning of a relationship, it soon gives way to more important things like who you actually are inside.

Best of luck.
