Why do men send photos of their genitals to women they barely know?

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Okay, inquiring minds must know. This appears to be a relatively new phenomenon, but in all seriousness, why do men send pics of their penises to women?

I'm not talking about if you're in a committed relationship or if the girl ASKS for it. I'm talking about a girl you just started talking to and just began getting to know.

So many women have experienced this random penis text phenomenon, and I just can't fathom the reason and rationale behind is.

Any explanation for this random behavior? Thanks in advance!

A reader, anonymous, writes (19 December 2013):

All my guy friends and pen pals have sent pictures of their

penis to me because I started it by sending my pics first.

They are very visual and they were turned on by mine so they thought I would be turned on by theirs. I think to some guys

just want you to tell them they are sexy. It's all about the

ego.

Most of the guys I know that do this, also get laid a lot. Draw your own conclusion about whether women really respond as badly as they pretend to.

largentsgirl89 agony auntEgo.

Visual stimulation.

Men are very visual sexual creatures and I think that they think we are visual too and so, penis pictures. My boyfriend used to do it all the time and when I asked why he basically told me it's a male ego thing.

Daisy_Daisy agony auntI think men think it's alluring (it's not) and possibly because they want a compliment. The good thing is that as soon as a guy sends you such a 'selfie', you know to throw him in to the 'no' pile.

olderthandirt agony auntGood grief! I can only speculate an overly inflated opinion of themself could prompt such an action. I would never consider doing that for sure. It's crazy stupid if you ask me. And ...you should consider this person certifiably nuts(pardon the pun). Stay clear of him!

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (17 December 2013):

chigirl agony auntI've gotten so many penis pictures I can't even count them. The moment you log on any chat room there is going to be some dude with his penis as his profile picture. And if you enter a video chat, you are bound to be presented with a penis there too.

Worst thing is, I dated a guy online once, and we'd chatted for several months and were really hitting it off. Then he wants to send me a picture, and guess what he sends me...

I didn't accept the picture. I didn't even have to open it up on my lappy, because the small icon of the picture showed enough. This was one of the first pictures he sent me of himself! I was asking for a picture of his face! Haha, not his penis! OMG, makes me really wonder what goes on in a guys head.

They seriously have this misconception that women LIKE seeing pics of their penis...! They are so in awe with their own penis they think it's all that matters. Just look at all the questions online from guys who worry their penis is to small to impress a woman. They honestly believe a penis is impressive... No man ever wrote in and asked they worry they don't present themselves well, or that they can't lift big furniture, or that they have greasy hair.. Things that actually WOULD affect what a woman thinks of him. Oh no... they're all worried about the penis!

It's cutting to the chase. If you like what you see, you will pursue it. If you don't, you can show it to your gay male friends; so they can send him theirs.

So_Very_Confused agony auntbecause they can.

because some women will not react properly with "ewwww that's gross and I never wish you to contact me again"

and because they are proud of their "junk" (which to me is a perfect term)

ATTENTION MEN: your bodies are funny looking flaccid or erect and pictures of your penis are not the calling card you would like to believe they are.

A female reader, Honeypie United States +, writes (17 December 2013):

Honeypie agony auntYes, Dick Pics are not really anything new. I think men assume that women will get excited and instantly drop their panties and bend over.

It's the new age of technology, don't call or meet up, you TEXT through your relationship, you break up through a text and of course send some Dick Pics or Boob Shots to make up for the lack of emotional and physical intimacy.

Some men think their penis and money is all women want so they either brag about money or "brag" about their appendage.

Now if this is a dude you BARELY know, I would tell him, don't ever contact me again. And I would (if I had the app) block him.

Personally, I don't find it erotic with body part selfies - but I don't think if a couple that are ACTUALLY dating who exchange then that it's "strange" or "odd" - just a little in bad taste. But someone new? Disgusting would be my first thought. You just can't UNSEE that... *shudder*

I think it show a HUGE (no pun intended) LACK of respect for the woman they send it to.

A female reader, Anonymous 123 Italy +, writes (17 December 2013):

Anonymous 123 agony auntBecause they just want to have sex with her...without any benefits. And what's the quickest way to get a girl in bed without much persuasion? Show her a picture of your penis. They think we cant resist them, they think we'll drool and go all ooh and aah and jump straight into bed. Ya, right!! Believe it or not, this happened to me once. I met this guy, we started talking casually and the next thing I know, he's emailing me TWO pictures of his penis...one flaccid and one erect!! I didn't know whether to throw up or report him to the police for the sheer horror that he had put me through!!

A female reader, AuntyEm United Kingdom +, writes (17 December 2013):

AuntyEm agony auntI think it's because a lot of men mistakenly think that their penis is the only thing women care about and by showing it they can 'advertise' themselves as 'manly' as 'virile'

It's not a new thing, you only have to look at Roman and other aincient art, you will find loads of phallic images, statues of huge penises.

Men like to show off, it's linked to their ego and sending a 'selfie' by phone messaging is just a new way of doing what has always been done.

A lot of women do not find it a particular turn on, because women are raised to be more conservative about their own bodies and are more likely to criticise themselves. A lot of men don't have such a critical view of themselves and so are less inhibited to 'share'

If someone send syou a pic and you don't like it...just tell them to stop.

YouWish agony auntHell, they do it when you're married to 'em too! Getting up in the morning, getting ready for work, and my brain isn't in gear all the way. I get out of the shower, dry off, and get my clothes on as fast as possible.

Husband gets out of the shower and thinks it's funny to drop his towel and "waggle" me. I don't get it. I never get it. I just simply say "nice package" because that's what he's going for. heh.

A female reader, MissTellAll United States +, writes (17 December 2013):

MissTellAll agony auntMost men are very VISUAL. They want to see women, pictures, videos, in person, etc. They assume similar desires are felt by us.

Also, I think some just want good PR out on their member!

Personally, I can't understand it. The last thing I want to see when I feel my phone vibrate from a new message is the genitals of some random dude. And the guys who send the pictures out in mass text form? Wow. Can't begin to understand that one.

My guess is men send it to us because they think we'll like it because they're more visual...I have no idea why otherwise either, because I find it more disgusting than arousing.
