My boyfriend and i have been together for a year now. I've decided i want to loose my virginity to him. when we started talking about what protection we would use we had an issue.

for my first time i want a guy to cum inside me, but of course i would get on the pill, but he wants to just use condoms to be safer. we have been arguing about this lately, i don't want kids rite now, but i do want him to cum inside me.

doom agony auntAs a futur doctor, i can tell you pills are safer for unprotected sex, only if the girls takes them REGULARY!!!! but the guy should be tested on STD before. Prezervative are used to evoid infections, and pregnacy. And let' s not forget: to use pills,it means a real confidence between two people.

i think the best thing for you to do is talk about your different options and outcomes. you are both being mature about your decison. as for going on the pill i would go on some sort of birth control anyway cause it also helps with other problems. but remember using condoms, spermicidal strips and sponges are all good alternatives. your first time you shouldn't worry about him coming inside you cause you will be nervous and it can be quite messy which is not what you want for a first time.wait until you are down the road more when you discover different forms of birth control so you won't need condoms.

Carrot2000 agony auntMy brother died of AIDS at the age of 35, so right now the LAST thing I want to hear is that nobody enjoys condoms. I live in a city with a higher AIDS rate in West Africa, so using a condom is not really a matter of pleasure, it's a matter of life and death. If you're going to have sex, please get into the habit of using condoms NOW, first time or not.

DoubleM agony auntTo "marriedlady" - I know, I know. The best advice is either the triple-wall protection or total abstinence, but let's try to be realistic. Nobody likes condoms and the pill is at least fairly good prevention for most of us. Many of these young folks use nothing at all.

Condom and the pill. Why do you want him to cum in you? You won't feel him doing it. So be safe let him do it outside of you.

A male reader, DoubleM United States +, writes (28 December 2009):

DoubleM agony auntWell I understand the desire of many women to know and feel a man cumming inside them rather than using a condom. Most of the agony aunts and uncles here are insistent on using every conceivable form of prevention, and of course, I must generally agree. But intercourse without a condom is certainly the most satisfying for both partners, in my opinion.

If a woman is "on the pill" and adhering to proper usage, the probability of pregnancy is tremendously reduced. In more than 45 years of experience, I never impregnated a woman who was using the pill, and I was always very fertile. Let's face it, condoms suck. If you want triple-firewall protection, then by all means, be on the pill, use a condom and have intercourse only within a few days of menstruation. Otherwise, the pill will likely suffice if properly used, but will not prevent transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.

What your boyfriend is suggesting is the safest option. Hang on to him - it sounds like he's one of those rare sensible young guys. (Using condoms is a much "tidier" experience too.)

A male reader, CaringGuy United Kingdom +, writes (28 December 2009):

Good for your boyfriend. The safest contraception is using both the pill and a condom. The pill to prevent pregnancy at about 98%, the condom to ensure there are no infections and to help back up the pill. Use both. your boyfriend is right.
