I am thinking of growing my hair long. i am a ginger 13 YR old boy and have been told by my classmates that i would not suit long hair. i still want to grow it though. they say that gingers cant have long hair. i am also wondering what style i should have done. what is fashionable, and what would suit ginger hair and a sort of round, baby face.

thanks!!!

Hey, my boyfriend has ginger hair and he really doesn't suit it short. I prefer long hair on boys anyway and he suits his hair longer. Not shoulder length or whatever, just long enough for a lad :)

Hi. I have long red hair. I call it red not ginger. I started growing it when i was 19 and still have it past my shoulders. Im now 23. I say forget about what others say. If you want to do it, do it. Youre only young once. And some people start going bald in their late teens and 20's so do it before you cant.

If you have curly hair, you should have it long but shorter than if you have straight hair, long hair suits everyone!

Heya,

Don't listen to the boys, what do they know. If you want your hair long, then hunni you grow it long. If you are worried about your hair being ginger as boys say it wood not look right long, why not change the colour, blonde, brunette. I had very long hair down to my waist i have now cut it to my shoulders, i want it long too. I am blonde. Maybe you should try fake extensions that clip on and off to see if you suit it. Lots a love caela xxx

A female reader, A Cappella United States +, writes (31 January 2008):

A Cappella agony auntMy husband grew his hair long, and it was great once it was really long (long enough to keep out of his face with a ponytail). But growing it out was really a nightmare. He looked like a doofus for a long time (his hair is wavy and hard to control). Once it was long it was sexy.

If you decide you want long hair you have to commit to looking really bad for a while before you look really good. If you're not willing to go through the bad phase, I don't recommend growing your hair. Good luck, either way!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (31 January 2008):

Why not experiment - its fun and gives you confidence in future years to re-style yourself. There is something really attractive about someone who is prepared to be absolutely themselves. I love guys with red hair - no ginger issues from me! Just be warned.... you may find it more difficult to cut it off once it has grown. I have long hair and one inch off too many from the hairdresser and I'm very unhappy.

Yos agony auntI have ginger(ish) hair and used to have it down to near my waist. No problems at all (other than taking so long to wash and dry...)

A female reader, birdynumnums Canada +, writes (31 January 2008):

birdynumnums agony auntI think long would be fine, but it's entirely a matter of proportion and grooming. Even if it's a fro, it's all about scale and size. If you grow a long do, don't let the width overwhelm your face. I'm kind of assuming that you have wavy, kinky, curly hair like mine by my responses. You really are better off asking one one your friends that you trust, because they can see your face and hair, and we can't. If you have a friend that has a great fashion sense, ask them for input. Have to admit, always have and still do love the guys with long hair... Must be my 70's roots!

Sams_WonderWoman agony auntI think if you want to grow your hair long, then go for it. If you have the ok from your parents, then go for it. Don't listen to what others say, it's your life.

You mentioned that you have a round face, then go for a hairstyle that will make your face less round...like straight and close to the face. You could try on wigs to see what style looks good with your face shape.

Just be yourself, and don't listen to what others tell you what you should do and you will be happy.

A male reader, Ponungalungb United States +, writes (31 January 2008):

Ponungalungb agony auntI don't get this "Ginger" stuff. There was another writer on here one time that said that "Ginger" kids were picked on and discriminated against. I guess there are some people that need to feel superior to someone. . . no matter what the reason.

In the states, there are: mixed raced, mixed color, red heads, blondes, brunettes, dark skinned, light skinned, bald heads, skin heads, Afros, jeri curls, corn rows, comb-overs, mullets, dread locks, you name it. It is literally the world's melting pot of skin colors and hair styles.

Now, to your question. If you want long hair, let it grow. Make a fashion statement. Don't be a slave to what's trendy. When I grew up crew cuts were in style, but I never wore one. I was popular with my longer "Shag" cut.

I have a round face and medium brown hair (I was never called "Ginger", btw), and I never had a problem attracting the opposite sex. Do what floats your boat and don't listen to anyone else! EVER!!!! Conformity is the root of all evil.

Good luck!

A reader, anonymous, writes (30 January 2008):

In my personal opinion, no. Especially not this young; you have not matured all the way yet, and long hair at this point may make you look a little...uh, is girly the word? If you'd like to grow out your hair long, I' wait a few years. Besides, long hair is on the way out thee days. It's usually relate with 'emo' and that's on the way out as well. Keep it short for the time being. The buzz-cut is on its way back in. Since fads repeat themelves, long hair will be back in in a few yers. Sit tight! :D

kenny agony auntregardless of what other's may think, if you want to grow your hair long then go for it. Its all about what you think, not whether others think it will look good or not. Grow it long and see if you like it, if you don't then at least you always have the option to cut it off again.

Good luck

A female reader, LethalInjection-x United Kingdom +, writes (30 January 2008):

LethalInjection-x agony auntFirstly, if you want to do something, and providing it isn't against the law, go for it! No one should influence your decision.

I know lots of red-headed people with long hair, one of my male friends has bright orange, waist length hair, and it REALLY suits him.

I can't suggest what would suit you, as I don't know what you look like, but, think of it this way, you're not REMOVING hair, so if you grow it and you don't like how it looks, get it cut! Easy as that :)

No hair cut suits a particular colour either, I've had blue, purple, pink, brown, black, green.. you get the idea, with a selection of styles, they all work well and suit me.

If you want to grow your hair, go for it, :)

xx
