I see this is many years later. I will add my sisters experience. She was flat as a pancake at age 17. NO breasts formed at all.
Years later, we discover that she has a genetic disorder called hemochromatosis, which can cause all kind of hormonal issues. As well as an adrenal tumor (which she also has).
Yet she did have children. So just because a person eventually develops and has children, doesn't mean there is nothing wrong. And this is only a portion of the problems she has had that could have been caused by the disorder. Symptoms build over time and the cause may never be found without persistence.

I dont kno if this helps but i know someone who did not have their period until they were 19, they checked everything on her. Turns out she had a pituitary tumor. Have them check her prolactin levels!

She was a developed woman with nice breasts, public hair and everything, so it wasn't that she hadn't entered puberty. She said she got hairy and developed breasts when she turned 12, its just that she never had a period. She said rather matter of factly that her sister and her were the same way. She had been to the doctor too and they did not know why. Well she is in her thirties now, is married and very healthy. No kids though. Don't know why and don't feel right asking why. All I know is her lack of a period did not become a health problem to date.I hope this helps ease your mind.Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I was also 17 at the time. I'm not some kind of pervert.

I have first-hand knowledge of this. My sister was always very short and very thin for her age. Then when she turned 18 she grew inches taller than me, still very thin and she did not have her period until she was 18. She is the mother of twins today.
My own mother had exactly the same body type as my sister and she did not start her period until the age of 18 as well.
I am the only other sibling and my body type is more like my father's side of the family, more athletic, shorter, and I started my period when I was just 15.
When my sister went to the doc because she hadn't started, they considered putting her on growth hormone, but she shot up on her own. I think growth hormone is the last resort though, as you really don't want to mess around with your hormones when they are not out of whack.

None of the doctors have come up with anything yet? Has she been to a gynecologist yet? If not, why not?

Ovarian failure? Is she underweight? Does she appear healthy otherwise? Has she developed breasts? I would see an endocrinologist with her.

There needs to be more information here because otherwise we are just making blind stabs in the dark.
What have the doctors said?
As for reasons why a girl can have a delayed period could be genetics, she could have been born without ovaries meaning she wont ever have a period.
There may not be enough hormones being released so she may just be developing slowly or not at all.
She could have a thyroid problem.
She could be underweight and or doesn't have enough body fat. Anarexics do not contain sufficient body fat and their periods stop. Its the bodies natural mechinism to preserve energy and prevent death where as highly athletic girls commonly have delayed periods because they lack the required body fat.
Again, blind stabs in the dark.

If you are really worried, absolutely take her to the doctor. My grandmother, 93 now, got her period at 17. Some girls get them later than others, it's a little unusual, but it's not unheard of. At least you can be thankful she isn't experiencing cramps or pms yet. :-)

Are you talking just this month, or at all? If not at all, could she be developing at a slower pace? There can also be nutritional reasons that can affect someone starting, which can also create and inconsistency month to month. I'd check with a nutritionist as well. Maybe there's a nutritional supplement she can take to kick it into gear.

hiya,i was a late starter i was about 16 and i hadent started either so went to the docters and i found out that i had P.C.O. ( http://www.verity-pcos.org.uk/ )and this can have many effects on your period.other than that i would talk to your family docter and ask them if they could put her on the contraceptive pill, this could help bring her on her period and get her body into a cycle.or there are other treatments that you and your daughter and your family docter could talk about.i wouldent worry about it tho.im sure shes just a late starter :0)
