A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm 5'2" and 97 lbs. My boyfriend of four years is 5'7" and 185 lbs. I constantly feel overweight, though. I feel like I want to lose at least ten pounds! My boyfriend tells me I'm crazy for thinking that. That I'm stunningly beautiful the way I am now and I should consider GAINING ten pounds.

What should I believe? My boyfriend or my brain?

wonderingcat agony auntHave a look at your own BMI and BMR, and as long as you are in the healthy zone, you should not worry about your weight and shape.

If you want to get into the good habit of eating healthy food, you should also consult with a medical nutritionist in your area, for the best well balanced diet plan that is specifically tailored for you or your age group. A good nutritionist/dietitian is always happy to provide consultations to health conscious clients/patients.

You can find some more information and good/responsible " how-to" information on the web when you google something like "healthy natural diet" combined with "weight loss" and bmi and bmr. Look for sites that are maintained by responsible people or organizations (support groups, or clinics, or doctors)

A good healthy diet normally means having a good healthy balanced diet. No pills, no surgery. With exercise, you will even look glam with your slim built, because you will be so toned!

If you wanted to know what your genes will dictate when you get older, just look at your parents and your relatives. If they are slim as you are now, you will probably be remain slim 20-40 years from now. But if you see some of them overweight, then observe what they eat. Which means, your healthy eating habit should start from now. And when you are 50, young men will think you are still in your early 30s! Woohoo! lol

Be beautiful, inside out!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (19 April 2009):

I'm very slim and I find I have 'fat' (not actually fat but just a state of mind) days when I feel bloated or some clothes don't fit properly. I think you might be over analysing yourself. The fact your boyfriend thinks you look amazing should really boost your confidence - but its not. Try and see if you can go for a few days without worrying about your weight. If you struggle with this I would say you may need to seek help with self-perception or esteem issues because you are certainly not overweight.

Yos agony auntUsing a few online body mass indicators, they say you are underweight. So certainly you are not overweight! Since your perception is clearly not in line with reality, you should believe your boyfriend. And if you find that impossible, then I recommend talking to a therapist.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (19 April 2009):

It really depends on your frame. I'm 5'3 and weigh right under 100 lbs but I'm small boned and my doctor says I'm at a good weight. I can't imagine you'd need to lose wieght at all. If you are larger boned, you may be underweight.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (19 April 2009):

Your boyfriend. I'm also 5'2". I'm 34 and most of my life have weighted below 100 pounds too (86-95 pounds). It wasn't until I could afford to buy lactose tablets and I could tolerate milk and dairy that I started to gain and maintain a little weight.

Maybe because you are very young it doesn't look that bad and you fell OK being so thin but I've struggled all my life with lots and lots of rejection because I was "too skinny". I had a very low self esteem and did everything to gain weight but nothing worked.

Today I fluctuate between 106-110 pounds and I look much much better. I find clothes more easily and I look more like a woman. I really wish I could do something to stay in at least 115 pounds forever without efforts. I suggest you to gain some weight of you can.

Or at least understand that you cannot be right thinking that at 5'2" weighting only 97 pounds you are too fat. It's not true and it doesn't make any logical sense. Some people could think you are some kind of anorexic or something so stop believing that at 97 pounds and adult could be too fat.
