 Trimmed or shaved. Au natural is basically a big "keep off the grass" sign as far as oral is concerned, and I feel that any girl I date deserves oral.
On the other hand, stubble hurts. Think about when you kiss a guy on the mouth - do you like that sandpaper feeling when he forgets to shave?
So, if you have hair, keep it trimmed and covering a small area, but not so short it hurts anyone.

Smooth is certainly nice, but trim is key. Of course, it all comes down to personal preference. So long as the stubble isn't irritating, it's not a problem. And, as other guys mentioned, shaving can cause issues as well. Just trim it close and keep it tidy and we're happy. Personally, I like a little landing strip.

 Some like it smooth, and some don't mind stubble or just trimmed. You'd find more often than not that guys don't mind either way. It should be discussed between you and who you're with. With guys, one thing I don't think you'll find is a guy saying, "I can't touch that.... there's hair on it."

My personal preference is what my girlfriend does, she uses an electric shaver to trim it to a level that it's tight but softer and longer than stubble. She hates stubble and won't shave it fully. If she wanted to do that she have to do it every couple of days and that's too much hassle. Plus she gets bad stubble rash from the regrowth.
You could just trim it like she does. It's about a week before she has to trim it again and either way I couldn't care less, as long as it's neat and not an enchanted forest.

 Each guy is different. Some like it smooth, some like stubble, some actually like it hairy. Personally, the stubble doesn't bother me. If you shave it's almost impossible not to have some stubble. I believe the only way to get it truly "smooth" is to wax... and most guys understand that's a pain in the butt to do.
