My mom's to busy to talk to so I came here for help. I think I'm irregular cuz of my heritage my Gram on my dad's side got her first period at 9 but my mom didn't get hers till she was 14, I got mine a week after turning 12, but I'm not sure. Is this kind of thing normal?

It's more than normal. I first started mine when I was 10, and it didn't settle down properly till I was 14...
Everyone always says that the pill helps with periods, but to be honest, with me all it's been doing is mess with my body and my cycle...

Yeah it is normal your body is trying to figure everything out but if it really concerns you you can talk to your mom and doctor about the benefits of getting on the pill for a little bit to help regulate when you get your period, help with heaviness, and to help with pain (which you didn't mention but it helps) the hormones will help get everything in balance and then you can get off them. Talk to your mom about it and just let her know that you wont be having sex that you are only interested in helping everything balance out and talking to your doctor with her and your options is going to be great.

For it to be irregular, it is normal. Especially if you have only had it for a year. I've had mine for 3 years and it still isn't regular. Since every body is different, it might take you a longer or shorter time to become regular. If you're still worried, next time you go in for a doctor's app., ask about it.
Good luck! :)

I'm irregular. I started when I was 11 and have had 3 or 4 a year for the last nine year... Wow that's been a while.... It's weird at first. I'd not have one for 3 months and then have a heavy one and then nothing for the next few months. Or, as happened last year, have nothing for 5 months and then 2 separate ones in under 2 weeks.... So it can be normal for you or it could "straighten out." If you are seriously worried you can talk to your doctor.
If the doctor asks you if you've been sexually active feel free to laugh in their face.... Mine thought I was pregnant since I had missed for 4 months, but it is normal for me.

A year is no time at all for periods to settle down. Some women it can take three to four years, maybe longer, maybe less. It's nasty at first, but when it settles down it should be fine. I don't really think that when your mother/grandmother started has anything to do with whether you're irregular or not. It's just because you're young and they haven't had enough time to settle down yet. Perfectly normal :). Nothing to worry about, sweety. xxx
