It seems to me that this is counter-productive.
Get a singing teacher (You can usually find them in the Yellow Pages) and keep at it and do everything they tell you. You'll be belting out Sonnets and Arias in no time.

Power Ballads always go down well because they show you can belt the hell out of a song. But Up tempo numbers are good because they show you can keep your voice stable even when you are changing notes and tones and keys with wilful abandon.
Given you are a tad nervous(I would be more worried if you weren't) I would suggest something simple.
- 'A Whole New World' From Aladdin
- 'On My Own' From Les Miserables
- 'Over The Rainbow' From The Wizard of Oz
- 'Storybook' From The Scarlet Pimpernel
- 'Defying Gravity' From Wicked
- 'I'm Not That Girl' From Wicked
- 'Honey-Bun' From South Pacific
- 'June Is Bustin Out All Over' From Carousel
- 'When You're Good to Mama' From Chicago
- 'Funny Honey' From Chicago
This is just a small list. COnsult your singing teacher on what would be a good song choice for your voice.
Just thank your stars that you have a choice in songs.
My next audition (for CHESS) I have to learn two songs from the show that the character I'm going for sings. These are 'ANTHEM' and 'WHERE I WANT TO BE'. I already know Anthem by heart, but Where I Want To Be is an amazingly different song and I have a month and a half to get it to audition quality without my singing teacher.
Over all, just have fun with it. If you don't get in or get the part you want be sure to get feedback on the audition so you know in what areas you need to work on and what areas you have done well in. This way you turn a faliure into just another step on the road to success.

Try "Reflection" from Mulan. My advice for you is Be the Song.. sing from your heart and just try to enjoy what you're doing. Try to practice in front of your friends (whom you really can trust) and in front of the mirror.
good luck and keep us posted!

HAHA, i like the suggestion to do Rick Astley's 'Never gonna give you up'. Do it man, and tell us the results.
If you want something a little more serious that shows off your vocal range, try 'yesterday' by the beatles, simple tune that flows up and down, easy to learn, and sounds nice.

'consider yourself'... from Oliver. All the songs in Oliver are classics.

I have a deeper voice so for an audition I recently did "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from Little Mermaid. It went so well, because it's a song you can really have fun with and give lots of character.
Pick something that you know and love and practice - especially in front of others, so you'll be less nervous in front of the director when you're auditioning.

Rik Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up"!
Just because it would be funny, and you have rick rolled every person watching you play it.
But just make sure to practice whatever you decide to do, i had to do a speech a few days ago and thanks to practicing i was able to do most of it from memory. It the sane with music just keep trying until you can do it without trying to hard.
