I want to get my boyfriend some cologne as part of his xmas present, but I'm completely clueless when it's comes to male fragrance and was hoping for some recommendations. What's your favourite men's scent?

Hugo Boss. Grey bottle. It's the best, go sniff it at a store and you'll see what I mean. Love that scent.

A friend of mine goes with Hugo Boss and always gets compliments for it. Your best bet is to smell them though because you want your man to smell like the scent you love.

First off - it is most important that you use YOUR nose and figure out what YOU like best!! You are the one smelling him, after all.
I absolutely LOVE my man in Victoria's Secret Very Sexy for Men. Oh my God, it smells soooo amazing. It is a total winner!!

Is your guy more preppy or sporty or classic? Or more masculine, woodsy, rough'roundedges, sleek, cityslick, sexy... Try analyzing the ads for different scents and match your guy to the model (consider the outfit, pose, other visual elements)who seems the most like him... or the image he would personally want to embody. Think how different a Burberry lad is from a Prada prettyboy... or a Polo Ralph Lauren sportsman... or a J.T. for Givenchy "playa"...
Consider also the bottle's design... would it look very out of place on your guy's dresser? Would he be embarrassed to own it? It's all about style. This is a very personal purchase... akin to buying someone a painting for their bedroom.
Before you get all strung out, calm it down... you don't own only one bottle of perfume, do you? Some like that special One, but most have multiple bottles to suit different moods and occassions... oftentimes you will hear (not that *I* personally listen) that it is inappropriate to wear the perfume you'd *spramp* on for a date night to the office! (*That was a WIll and Grace reference*). (It's all in the number of spramps, Honestly.)
But if that Does sounds like too much work,
"Tom Ford" always means HOTTTT.
(I also quite like Euphoria for Men by Calvin Klein, but as *I* personally wear the femme version, that would be too too freaky matchymatchy. Also, Euphoria is perhaps a mite too flowery a product name for a Mister Man, though the bottle's design Is sleekly modern and sehr attractive...)
hm.
This has been a tricky one!

You can't go wrong with anything Armani..but take a friend with you so you're not huffing too much perfume by yourself. To add to Konstantine's post if you're going to go the Abercrombie route..pick Fierce that's what they spray around the store.

Just go in and try some, if you like, he'll like it. We only want to smell good to impress the ladies after all. Otherwise most of us wouldn't bother putting any on.

Nah, the question is what's YOUR favorite men's scent? Get him something you love the smell of. That way it pays off for him again and again when he wears it. Most guys aren't picky about that stuff, and if we know you like the smell of it, then that's enough for us to wear it.
