I am just out of college and the job is as a teacher, what I trained to do. The problem is almost every night I have nightmares about the job. I feel I don’t deserve it and im not qualified enough or as good as the other candidates. Teaching is my greatest love and it makes me so happy but Im scared of screwing everything up and wasting other people’s time. I feel like Im going to be uncovered as a fraud or something. Can anyone help? x Reply to this Question Share |

I taught at a College for 20 years before my retirement.
Firstly, let me echo what Jason said - it's a job that fills you with doubts and insecutities!
The most important thing here is that you love the job - with that in mind, you will be great and cannot fail. The only bad teachers I have met are those that are half-hearted about the job; it shows in all aspects of their work and in their rapport with the students.
Keen and enthusiastic teachers, on the other hand, are worth their weight in gold to any institution, and will get on wonderfully with both colleagues and students.
If I could even get across to you even slightly how nervous and in fact terrified in my first class, you would wonder how I survived that day!
Forget those nightmares: every bone in my body is telling me that you will be great, and after a few days you will look back and wonder what you were afraid of.
Please, once you have settled in, write and tell me how you got on?
Harry.

I don`t know if I can help but I`ll offer this. Its natural to feel fear when confronted with new things whatever they may be.Be confident in your ability. There must be a reason YOU were chosen for the position.Do what you have trained to do and do it in a manner you enjoy. If you have any problems don`t hesitate to get the advice of your fellow teachers. They will be more than happy to offer you guidance and assistance should you need it.
