She said it stung a little on the first day when she peed, but it was completely healed in about a week.

All women have these things at the entrance to the vagina. They're like the little 'frills' that most people have on the underside of their tongues.
They aren't the inner or outer labia, they are actually at the very entrance to the vagina itself.
Normally they are very short and don't stick out, but sometimes they do.
I don't have a vagina myself, but I have a friend who has, and she had this exact same thing. One of hers was a little bigger than usual, and protruded slightly.
I'm a body piercer, and I have seen literally thousands of female genitals in very great detail. I have never seen two alike.
If you want to see this for yourself, go look at some porn and you'll see how much the anatomy varies.
Just remember that every time a guy puts his hand in a girl's pants, he feels something different. I practically guarantee that guys will not notice.
I went down on my friend a few times and I wasn't in the least bit put off by it.
In fact, I only noticed it because she pointed it out to me, and I remember wondering why she was making such a big deal about it.
She had it removed eventually because it bothered her a bit, but it really shouldn't have.
Have it checked out just to be safe (my friend told me that it can be caused by a blocked gland sometimes) but seriously, don't let it stop you having fun.

 I have them, there nothing to worry about, you just need to come to terms with them before going any further with anybody else. If your not confident about yourself then you won't go any further. Maybe you should discuss this with your partner, you may be able to talk about it so he understands your 'problem'.

As most of the posters have said, vaginas do vary quite a bit and there a lot of different ways that it can look. If you DO have a specific concern, you should get your Mom to bring you to an OB/GYN for a physical. It's a lot less stressful than worrying about it, and we aren't doctors!

The outer lips, surround two soft flaps of skin that are hairless, it is called the inner lips (labia minora). Maybe you can search for more information on that, it might help you.

 Its one of these things, its like finger prints they are all different, no woman is the same! Dont be thinking you are weird, every one is different, I used to think the same, it's a case of realising it for your self... seriously its like guys, you said you have had your fair share, im not being cheeky about that, im just saying you will notice they are all different shapes and sizes too!

If you don't wish to post what the problem is, you can always write to an Aunt directly, if that helps. I can't really offer any advice, because I did not get a clear understanding of what your problem is, and I think most Aunts would also be a bit baffled. See if there is an Auntie whose writing you like and post her!
