Hi Cupid.

This isn't about love but it's a small question.

When im in class or just bored I start messing with my hands. I gently yank my fingers and then I bend them one at a time to each side. I was just wondering if this helps in any way to get my hands more flexible for example, or should I stop doing it?

youngandrestless agony aunti do the same thing, my fingers are actually double jointed so i have a great range of weird things i can do with them! there is absolutely nothing wrong with it as long as you do not over extend your fingers, in fact it can be very good for the joints and can help prevent stiffness later in life. the only things you need to be careful of are cracking or popping your joints and over extending them. otherwise have fun!

A male reader, spinnaker United States +, writes (26 May 2011):

spinnaker agony auntMoving and stretching the fingers does help limber up the soft tissue around the joints and the finger muscles. This is actually a form of massage as the movements circulate the fluids that would otherwise be trapped in those soft tissues.

Just be sure you aren't bending beyond your range of motion. Bending and pulling beyond range of motion can cause injury if it is not done under the care of a physical therapist or doctor.

You at least have a good habit - you could be picking your nose instead. :)
