A male reader, anonymous, writes (9 September 2008):

In my personal opinion, McCain is a far better choice for President than Obama as he has no real experience for the job, yes he ran for senate but i feel McCain is much more qualified. Obama's policies are too socialist and 'spread the wealth' rather actually the major issues facing america today. Also, on a side note, i feel the democrats have really screwed up their choice of candate. Clinton was better in almost all respects, older, more life experience, better qualified etc. She was in the white house for four years for goodness sake! She knows the demands of a presidency. Plus, the whole mess of choosing the candidate has torn the party in two which means that the unified republicans are becoming increasingly popular despite the disgrace of Bush.

In conclusion, i think Hilary should have been the running candidate for the democrats and she would have stormed into the whitehouse but since it is Obama, i think McCain will just about take it. Well the results in 58 days, so let's wait and see.

I think single handedly mccain has gave Obama the win. Lets face it theres alot of raisist people in America [not everyone] but even more would rather see a black [sorry half of many I no not black] midle classed pres than a woman vice pres.

I no! But its true they think women cant handle it which is probably why H.C got as far as she did. It was thanks to the women voters! :D x

Very true, but also someone far better than McCain. The best know better than to run for president, which leaves us with the next to best every time. It has been a long time since we have had a choice of the best. Probably not in my lifetime.

Artistry agony auntHi anybody, I think we can all be adults and agree to disagree, if we want, nothing personal. We all believe in something, which doesn't have to be about anybody else, we all have views, the fact that there is vanilla, chocolate and strawberry is proof that varietry is the spice of life. Also because I say something certainly doesn't make it right in someone else's eyes, or the reverse. Take care.

A female reader, Artistry United States +, writes (5 September 2008):

Artistry agony auntHey there, If people are happy, dappy with the past eight years then go Palin. She is a lively choice, but this sequestration of her, so she can't face the press is very interesting. Also the investigation of Governor Palin, on charges of abuse of power, is a bit serious, she may not be the vice presidential nominee on November 4, if she is indicted, and goes on trial. The final report out of Alaska is to be released around October 15 instead of October 30, unless the Republican machine, under Karl Rove can squash it. John McCain is still an arm of Bush politics, more tax reductions for the rich, less income for the middle class, more tax cuts for big businesses, no health care for folks, as one of McCain's advisors said they can go to the emergency room. Give me a break here, the Republicans care about their base which is filled with many, many rich people. Mr. McCain himself has seven houses. You think they care about the middle class, John McCain voted for ten years against raising the minimum wage, and has voted against assisting women with health care, and will absolutely replace the retiring Supreme Court Justices, with those that are as right wing as they can find, virtually assuring a reversal of Roe v Wade.

War is his means to an end in most cases, in conflict, his song "Bomb, bomb bomb Iran", was not joke, he believes it.

Don't walk around being so giddy about a vivacious, well spoken, lady who can shoot out the insulting burbs with the best of them, the two of them, are not good for the country. Besides the fact, no disrespect intended, I think Mr. McCain is suffering from dementia, and possible PTS, from being in that prison camp. We just lost another 84 thousand jobs, unemployment went up to 6.1%, and that is not even the real unemployment number, it's higher than that. The outsourcing of jobs, the reduction of jobs in the U. S. due to inflation forces, high gas prices and other things causing a reduction of disposable income, have only just begun. So shout and dance, but be very careful that you are not voting against your own self interest. Sorry for the rant, but seven freaking years is just about enough.

michelleAKAmandi agony auntAfter listening "twice" to Mrs Sarah Palin's speech, I can only urge those of you who are not involved in this election to get involved. This great Lady is a wonderful speaker and an asset to John McCain.

Don't listen to the media, they give very biased opinions and it is very apparent that many take their words to be the gospel, pardon that pun.. Please watch and learn for yourselves, we are seeing history in the making.

She speaks for all of us, the everyday blue collar worker, the American family, the advocate for change, which she HAS a plan for. Unlike the Demo ticket whom should be concerned about the McCain/Palin popularity which I see to only grow as this campaign picks up speed.

Four years down the road, I too have a vision......I see her as our first woman president..............Go Palin!!!!

My opinion, it was asked!!

I really don't know what the fuss is all about - America's so f***ed up already it's gonna take a genius to sort it all out. Though i suppose it is a step in the right direction.

I'm so glad I'm brittish. Things are so much nicer in Kent. Yeah -we pay tax, but boy oh boy am i glad that my (rather poor) cousins can see a doctor on the NHS and be taken care of (with in reason) til they're better.

The health service is bad in America coz no one wants to pay for anyone but themselves. Well, in general opinion, obviuosly. I know many kind willing americans, but so many up-their-own-butts i can't count them.

Ah, now i feel a lot better for having my daily rant.

A female reader, PsyCookie United States +, writes (20 August 2008):

PsyCookie agony auntOldersister:

From the vague memory I have from the History Channel documentary about that quatrain, I remember that they didn't really say what the work "Black" specifically meant. But they did connect Mabus and connecting it with some other guys named Mabus (I'm not sure if it is Raymund Mabus). They also talked about how Mabus is just a scrambled word or a word that may be missing or have added letters.

It's just like when Nostradamust talked about some guy named "Histler" that would try to take over countries 400 years after his death.

And about the voting, I'm still thinking about it. I'm fairly young (just going to turn 20) and my lack of interest of politics makes me think I will not be self-aware of what these politicians want to do. I want to be really informed before I vote, and I want to understand what the political leaders want to offer us. Most people vote in sheer ignorance (as in, not fully understanding what the guy they're voting for will do), and I don't want to be like that. I think further study in political sciences would help me understand it.... but like I mentioned before, I don't have any interest in politics.

I remember I had read about it (the ethnicity thing) on my government book on high school, but then again, it was public.

I remember that for when I applied for college there was only one box for Middle Easteners and Indians: "Asian". It kind of made me laugh when my Pakistan friend was checking the box. She was laughing too.

Then again, this is my first time voting. So I cannot know at all what to do this.

But getting on topic, I don't want to care so much about all of this. I know this is my country and I know it will affect me, but making a fuss over this is so trite. Both candidates have good and bad qualities and both of them will affect us in one way or another. The only difference in them is that one is more charismatic than the other one.

And then again, I'm not thinking of voting at all.

A male reader, Danielepew Mexico +, writes (20 August 2008):

Danielepew agony auntWell, here's an answer from someone who can't vote at all and who lives in a different political environment: It won't matter much who wins, really. Whoever wins, there will be a whole system of checks and balances in place that will make sure he can't blow it beyond a certain point. Your checks and balances might be imperfect, but they work way better than in many other countries. There can be nuances in government, but there is never as strong a change in the course of the country as does happen where I live. One president or one party do make an important difference in how we live. So, I do understand the decision is important for you, because it's your president, but it doesn't sound like that to me.

By the way, where I live, we would define Obama as "mixed colour", which would make him just like most anyone else. There would be nothing special about him, and, if you understand me correctly (I'm not supporting McCain), I don't think his racial origin, or McCain's for that matter, should be important at all.

Jamer70 agony aunti guess Artistry said the point going through most peoples mind. Bush dugg a deep hole and people are thinking McCain will be the same, so they go for obama. WHY? prehaps the lesser of two evils, but in my opinion it doesnt make him any better. Which was your question. Personal i find Obamas socialists view annoying, just because someones is richer doesnt mean the government has the right to take more of their money. Why? maybe they wont miss it? Others need it?

I think obamas and the democrats let give money to people (who bascially sit on the arse) for no reason just makes the problem worse. I think the money should be used to give these peoples skills and they should only get money while working or learning. But his probably wont come from the Dems or GOP. But then again this stuff has to happen at state level. Futhermore i disagree with obama on the war aswell, i know everyone will hate mefor this, but i think the US and Uk are in a stupid situation based on lie and stupidity but we are there(iraq) and i dont think turning our back just because we cant see a win is right, i personally believe that will send the country into a worse crisis, i think we need to get to a point where we can leave safely (will it come, i dont know, so i feel my views mute)

A female reader, Artistry United States +, writes (20 August 2008):

Artistry agony auntHi there, Well I can say one thing you've got good taste. For one thing Obama is a bit too smart for most people. He has naunced positions and he talks on two diferent levels, sometimes three, so people who really don't like to think get a bit lost when he starts to talk in his slow decisive way, which I hope he will lose and start to be a bit more spontaneous, but that's his way. If a lot of people who don't like him would, listen a litte while, maybe they would understand his principles. John McCain, for the longest time has been saying so many things that are actually not even true, he doesn't know the differnce between Sunni's and Shiite's, he didn't know how many troops are in Iraq, he didn't know who is actually running Iran, the Clerics and not the President of Iran, he didn't know that it's the Chech Republic now, and not the old name. The funny thing is, if anything is funny about this, is that foreign policy and affairs are supposed to be his strong suit. His economic policy has been debuked by top economists, so what is his strong suit? He loves to lie, he'll tell you in a minute, he didn't say he didn't know much about the economy, then they run tape of him saying the exact same thing he said he didn't say, he has done that more than once, he is a habitual liar. The press just lets him roll with the garbage, because he is a war hero. But I am a political animal and I listen. He pounds Obama for having ambition, almost to the point of calling him treasonist, when in fact in one of his books, McCain said he wanted to be president because that was his ambition. What's up doc? With no disrespect intended, I really think that Mr. McCain has a touch, or more than a touch of dementia. I say that because I feel he suffers from PTS, from being in that prison camp for five years. But in seeing what the electorate of the U. S. has put in the White House lately, and the state of our country, we are bankrupt, China, Saudi Arabia, and Japan own us, the war is not being paid for on the budget. The credit crisis, housing crisis, our army is just about deseminated, and when they come home, the PTS is going to be devasting to the mental health of the kids who are serving three, four tours of duty, all because somebody tried to kill somebodies daddy. We are in quite a mess, and it's deep, regardless of what the pundits say. So, if people want to go another round with these same stupid policies, just because the other guy has brown skin, I say have at it. We are in a ditch now, let's see how much further down we can go. Forget the color, I want smart, thoughtful, caring, and sensible, and logical. Since the rich have had the run of the last seven years, why not share the wealth, I hate labels, who knows, we need a touch of a new brain, a new concept. I find nothing wrong with helping people, if the apple has a small spot inside that is decaying, if you don't stop the decay, the whole apple rots. Doesn't it say somewhere, that what you do unto the least of these, you do unto me. Why would you begrudge those who may not be able to help themselves, citing a label? Very interesting it is. There are Republicans out there in Ohio, Colorado, Indiana and Iowa, assembling as "Republicans for Obama", who are sick of attacking countries who have not attacked the U. S., torture and all kinds of other stupid things, like discarding the Writ of Habaes Corpus, which many people didn't even know is no longer in effect, and unless Congress reinstated it, we are not presumed innocent until guilty anymore. I also think this is going to be a landslide election, and not as Paris Hilton, said in favor of the wrinkled, white haired, dude.

Let's be a little more open minded and expand our Universe. Sorry to be so long winded, don't usually talk politics, but I love it. If you would like to read more

of my banter, go to:

www.socyberty.com/writers/quiet+voice.8137

Take care. Stay in touch, and don't accept what someone says, not even myself, without doing your research, it's out there, seek truth for yourself, even if you can't vote here.

your race is chosen depending on your mother's or father's race depending on the state. In Texas (where I live), it depends on the mother. So when my boyfriend applied to college, he had to check on Hispanic, even though he considers himself American Indian (his father's race).

Nicely said. I'm half black and half white and it drives me nuts how everyone identifies me as African American exclusively! I'm just me is all. I hope that people really make their decisions in this upcoming elections based on ideas, stances and changes for our future, not the outside of our candidates. To vote for an ethnicity would be really silly!! Let's vote for what's important.

I think Obama is great, really. I really like his attitude, his causes and how he's really exciting the younger generations to get involved with our futures. I think that his ideas are great and that we can build a better world with him as a leader.

However, this is one election where I don't think that any of the big runner candidates are the spawn of Satan. Thank the Lord... I have hope for the next four years.

On to the question even though i'm not American i see both candidates as bad choices really and both are similar in most respects bar the war, future wars and the economy. Truthfully until i see one who can fix America in turn fixing the world i can't truly like either. But my main problem with Obama is he is too much of a socialist for my liking, his tax and rebate plans just look like redistribution of wealth to me. Personally i think if someone has worked to earn money (the American dream right?) is there, because they were smart with it stupid people don't have money for long(bar kid with rich parents).

But right now i think people only listen to obama's speeches and don't actually look at the man, because they see bush as a major idiot and want an escape.

That's my two cents - But right now ive gotta get rid of brown so America can concentrate on itself
