Not having my period a week later mean anything?

A female United States age 30-35, *itty Thunder writes:

I am 19. My bf and I always use a condom when we have sex but about a month ago when we were messing around I sat on his lap with his penis in me for a few seconds, and we didn't think anything about it. But we started worrying when I didn't have my period on time. Today it's a week overdue and I still haven't had it, and I'm freaking out. We are sickly worried it could mean I'm pregnant. I've been feeling very mild pms symptoms for the last 3 days. Is it normal for a period to be this late? Does anyone know what's going on? Please help.

Mr Me agony auntYup, same happened with my girlfriend. She took 2 and they both turned negative. We still had to wait another week before her period came.

Sounds just you're way overburdened with stress. Again, just try to reduce your stress levels someway.

MommyOfOne agony auntThey are pretty darn accurate after a missed period. The results you got were more than likely the real results. Try again in a week if still no period...

Kitty Thunder agony auntI've taken 3 tests already over the past few days before I posted this, 2 showed up negative and 1 was invalid. But they can show up negative if I don't have enough of that hormone yet, that's why I'm here asking.

A female reader, MommyOfOne United States +, writes (21 March 2009):

MommyOfOne agony auntI would recommend taking a home pregnancy test...

I never understand why people come on here to ask US if they think they are pregnant. Its not as if we have magic powers and can tell you that kind of stuff... If there is question in your mind to *if* you are pregnant, go get a test. I'm sure there is a walmart, walgreens, cvs, rite aid, *SOMETHING* with in driving distance. There is no logical reason to sit and wait and wonder when home pregnancy tests are inexpensive, and readily available.

Now, if the test reads negative, wait a week and if no period, test again. If that's negative, wait yet another week and test again. If that's negative, and *still* no period, go to a dr to get checked out. Worry and stress can throw your cycle off. Especially being "sick" with worry that your pregnant can play some amazing tricks on your mind *and* body. If its negative, try to relax, and more than likely your cycle will start.

And keep in mind that putting his penis in your vagina without a condom can very well get you pregnant. This isn't rocket science. If you two do not want a baby, keep his penis out of your vagina if there isn't a condom on it.

bobbles32 agony auntYep, It's pretty normal...especially if you're stressed about something.. say Pregnancy? :p

haha! you're probably just late because you're all stressed out. Or any other factor that could swtich it up, periods are annoying like that, they're right on time when you don't want them to be and then they're late when you want them to be there. Personally, I'd say don't worry about it unless there was semen on his penis.

There IS a small chance of pregnancy, Don't get me wrong.. It only takes one tiny little sperm to knock you up and there are millions in a tsp. If you're a week overdue then you're ready to take an early pregnancy test, keep in mind that the results may not be as accurate as they will be say..ten days later.

To prevent this from happening in the future I suggest you always wear condoms, and take the pill/patch or some other type of contraceptive. It just makes sense. Can't have a baby ruining your dreams dear.

Also, get tested if you haven't already..and suggest your boyfriend get tested too. There are some nasty things out there!

I wouldn't worry TOO much at this point...it's fairly normal for periods to be slightly off schedule...but if you're this worried about it, take a pregnancy test or consult your doctor.

A male reader, Mr Me United States +, writes (21 March 2009):

Mr Me agony auntThis sounds familiar to a situation minus what my girlfriend and I went through. Although, we have never had penetration without a condom (I'm sure you will after this, but always use a condom).

For starters: yes, it could mean that you're pregnant. It depends on whether he was precumming or not. I would suggest going to grab a pregnancy test. Any should do seeing as it has been awhile since the incident.

The next thing you need to do, if the pregnancy test comes out false, is to calm down. Not necessarily about this, but about anything in your life. Stress can delay your period significantly. When it was all said and done, my girlfriend arrived 2 weeks late, about. She was going through a very stressful time in her life and her period seem to come once things in her life began to reorganize. So, just try to find ways to reduce the stress levels in your life at the moment.

Hope that's helpful.
