Can I walk up and say "I've been thinking of you"?

Question - (21 March 2009) 5 Answers - (Newest, 22 March 2009)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm in love with an older guy I never met. (I'm 18, which is the age of consent so there are no legal issues to my knowledge.) I've talked to him a few times, but only passing comments, if that makes sense. I think he might like me too but I have no way of knowing that, and I'm always paranoid that I'm jumping to conclusions. We've held eye-contact before and it left me completely breathless...I'm not sure if that's because of my feelings for him alone or because of a connection we've made....

Would it be smart to just walk up to him and say something to the effect of "I can't stop thinking about you?" If so, is there a way of saying something like that without sounding...well, completely disturbing like it would if I said "I can't stop thinking about you?"

Try "Hi, How's it going? We've never really been introduced, I'm Emily."

Take it from there.

Good Luck!! xx

Alright, point taken. What would be more subtle?

Oh, he's not a teacher or professor, nor is he married. At least, the major signs of marriage aren't there...I've observed and I'm more than 3/4ths sure he's available.

It depends, anonymous. If he is a teacher or professor,(which I think he may be in this case), I would definitely say "no". This is not a social situation. Nor is it a social situation if he is a supervisor at a workplace. And if he is married, it is a definite "no" in any situation.

bobbles32 agony auntHm! Maybe you could say something more subtle to test the waters first. Do you know if he has a woman in his life? We don't want to get caught up in something like that now! Are you too shy to ask him out on a date? like a movie or a theatre kinda date? I think "I've been thinking of you" may be a little too sudden, and you don't want him to resemble a dear caught in headlights when you spill your heart. Maybe try something like "Did you see (Insert movie here) yet? I heard it's really good but can't seem to find anyone to go with me"
