So if any man came sniffing around my door, at that age, around my 17 year old- I'd kick him in his needy bluies.
Besides, my Teens are WAY too educated and self confident to even consider a man of that age to date. They even say from observation of peers, something is not right with the dude if he has to pick amonst young women, barely out of girlhood.
The stats support abuse of position/authority so much in Canada that its just not wise regardless.
Currently, the cut off age gap is 2 years for my 17 year old daughter, 4 years for my 19 year old daughter.
Consideration of dateworthy individuals Education, Career path, lifestyle, standards/vaules.
They just won't date anyone who is not in school or has a job, does not own a car or have access to one, and Dude must not drink, be non smoking, drug free, has no criminal record or even fines/tickets. No Gambling, no pornography.
Surprisingly Dad supports these rules of dating because he admits, he was a no good bum and got what he got when I left him.

Sweety there is nothing wrong with dating a teenager at your age. Girls do mature faster then boys!!
If you want things to work dont force her to rush into a physical relationship and also maybe think of getting married to her so you make things more stable :)

as others have said it's not illegal where you live but I gotta be the MOMMY here and say "how do her parents feel about it?"

Why not take the time to get to know her? See if you have things in common before getting serious? And IF you two really click, the waiting til she is 18 for sex shouldn't be too hard. (nu pun intended).

The age of consent in Canada was raised to 16 years in 2008, provided there isn't an issue of authority. So -- legal, yes.

in the uk, the age of consent is 16, so it wouldnt be illegal.
However as a parent I would question your motives. I would much prefer a deep friendship whilst she is so young than anything more physical. It would allow her family to get to know you and build trust.

Like it was said, it is only illegal if you are sexually active with her. Other than that there is no reason that you can't date her. My concern is that you say casually. She may fall for you much harder then you think and if you actually care about her you will watch out for this.
I'm 21 and just started seeing a girl who is 17 and things are great. It all depends on how much you two have in common.
