well i have been ther and done that. it would be best to use a tampon. a pad would feel like a diaper when it hit the water. but if your not using tampons try it anyway it may be more comfortable for you. try the smallest size first. ok and just relax it will a be fine.

Maddogg132 agony auntYou know i would try a tampon if i were you. I know that they sound scary but there not. It may feel uncomfortable but you cant even feel it and you wont have to worry about swimming with your period. I would know because i got my period in the 6th grade and i always made up excuses to get out of swimming because i hated thinking about using a tampon but in the 7th grade it was the last day of school and we were going to noahs ark and i was on my period and i knew i wanted to have a good time so i used a tampon and i put it in there and i forgot that i even had my period until i got home and really had to pee. so i would just try one and if you need some advice i would go to your mom.

A female reader, Farris United Kingdom +, writes (5 March 2007):

Farris agony auntYou can only swim if you're using tampons (I don't think I need to explain what would happen if you were wearing a sanitary towel).

There is a prescription drug (not the contraceptive pill) that you can get from a GP that delays your period however long you take the medication for. I don't know how long it takes to come into effect, but it's worth enquiring about.

Best wishes, and have a great holiday!
