ok,

I have a big problem. Im suppose to start my period today, and well i kinda did. But the thing is i have to pee or feel as though i have to pee every few mins. But when i pee it burns, and its very litely bloody. I dont know what to make of this, but its driving me crazy, im trying to get some sleep but cant, because of it. And this is kinda embrassing but i heard that if it was a yeast infection (spelling?) then it would be somewhat puffy and sore looking. So i had a look and it wasnt at all like that. So can anyone tell me what this might be?...and i know this is kinda gross, im sorry. But please help?

misfitschik66 agony auntI know for a fact this is a bladder infection all of what your saying is the symtoms of a UTI urinary tract infection

i had the same thing and i had blood in my urine and it just got worse

you NEED to go to the doctor right away and get antibiotics to treat it since you have a bladder infection you are now prone to getting them

be very careful when you have sex and clean very well when your bladder will now bruise easily and since there is blood in your urine you may want to take antibiotics for awhile even after you know its gone like for a months or so just so that you know it wont come back again and your bladder is healed

A female reader, birdynumnums Canada +, writes (8 July 2008):

birdynumnums agony auntPlease see your Doctor and get some antibiotics to clear this up. It's old name was "Honeymoon" cystitis, or UTI. You get it from bacteria entering your urethra, usually as a result of sex, so always pee after having sex to prevent this. If you leave a UTI untreated, it could cause a kidney infection, which can be extremely serious, so make an appointment to see your Doctor today and get this cleared up. Cranberry juice and other treatments can help, but make sure that your infection is cleared up completely!

A female reader, Midge United Kingdom +, writes (8 July 2008):

Midge agony auntIt sounds very much like a urinary infection. Woman are prone to getting them. If untreated it can become very serious so I suggest you get it seen to. In the meantime however, I would seriously suggest going and buying yourself some cranberry juice and drinking loads of it. I get them every so often but I just drink cranberry juice and drink a South African remedy called Citro Soda. It works every time! I dont think you can get Citro Soda here, so suggest you get an appointment to see your GP but in the meantime drink loads of cranberry juice. Even if you dont like cranberry juice, just drink it to reduce the discomfort and try reduce the pain.

In a man, this could be either cystitis, non-specific urethritis or gonorrhoea.

See your doctor or GUM clinic and get checked out.

A friend of mine had this problem and she had used too much soap or an irritating soap down there. I don't know if that is your problem but don't hesitate or be embarrassed to go to a doctor if it continues.

A female reader, sarcy24 United Kingdom +, writes (8 July 2008):

sarcy24 agony auntI would think this is probably cystitus. Try drinking cranberry juice and lots of water. Bloody urine can be the start of a period but pain on passing pee in females is quite often a sign of cystitus. Cranberry juice is very good and will take the pain away almost immediately.

Tremor agony auntIf you weren't on your period, the blood would be a concern, but I'm betting the blood is just because of menstruation.

A burning sensation could be any number of things. Try drinking a lot of water - flooding your bladder can soemtimes clear whatever is irritating it. But if it persists, go see your doctor.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 July 2008):

Most likely its a uti. So you need to get to the doctor TODAY. A uti is just a bacterial infection that if untreated immediately could cause infertility. Seriously. So go to the doc first thing today. Its serious enough to be late to school and work if you have to. If you don't have a doc, go to a walk in clinic. But go.
