writes: okay - firstly i was stupid enough to sleep with someone without a condom - yes, aware of this. But i am now in the wanting to get tested stage to make sure i am okay. I know chalamydia and syphilis are the most common STI's so i am gonna get tested for those first - partner claimed he has been regularly tested and is clean however i don't know him that well and i'd rather find out for myself. I had sex with him a week ago. The question is - how long after sex should you get tested for chalamydia? That is the first one i am doing since it only involues peeing in a pot - i believe the syphillis one involues a blood test so i am gonna have to contact my GP for that, doh, do not revish the thought however i made my bed and now must suffer the consequences. I know if i decide to get tested for HIV then that involues a 3 month wait. Boy will i be making people wrap up in future - do not want this worry again - fingers crossed i am okay. Although am aware you should get tested between partners but the last relationship i had we were both virgins at the start and well, were not at the end. So figured myself clean and didn't need to get tested just yet. I won't make this same mistake again so please be kind in your responses. Is there anything else you think i should get tested for STI and STD-wise?

You can go to a Gum clinic or a health centre, or phone them beforehand (phone numbers over internet and such). Some diseases take longer to show, but they will be able to advise you.

Go to your local GUM clinic - or phone them up for advice. They can usually do all the tests you need during one visit. If they can't (HIV testing, for example, needs to be redone after a certain incubation period after the time of suspected contact) they can advise you of the best time.
You will need testing for HIV, syphillis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, herpes and human pappilloma virus.
Your GP can do all these tests too but they are not always as easily accessible as GUM clinics. Many GUM clinics have late evening opening times and drop-in services where you don't have to make an appointment. Google "Gum clinic" + your local area or visit you local county council homepage and follow the health links. Or visit the NHS Choices website.
As you've now realised - the fact that you had only one partner prior to this liaison does not protect you from STD's as it all depends on the cleanliness and integrity of the most recent guy (and all his previous partners)
Get some condoms and always carry them with you

These two links should help you - the first explains what happens and the second shows where you can find a clinic in your area.
When you go to get tested for STD's they will check you for all of them unless you specify otherwise, and they will do a blood test there and then (you dont need a referral from a GP). All you need to do is make an appointment, show up, explain when you had unprotected sex and they will test you for all of them (probably with the exception of HIV seen as that takes 3 months to show up in your system).
I'm not certain how long it takes for other STD's to show up, but just make an appointment at your local sexual health clinic and they will be able to advise you properly.
I hope this helps!
