A male reader, anonymous, writes (6 March 2009):

Well I personally love looking like a geek. I get that same attention you get and I actually love it. I feel singled out from society and in some weird way, special. Dunno why you would not want that.

If you are reading this you may want to consider that it is only a bad thing if you let it be. If the only thing people say is "geek" well maybe learn to adjust to that. Else if it bothers you that much you can get contact lenses. In this day and age I actually find it weird if people over 19 call others a "geek".

A male reader, tux United States +, writes (6 March 2009):

tux agony auntBeing a geek is not a bad thing.. We need to stop letting it be a bad thing. I mean we are in an age where everyone has a computer and a lot of nerds and geeks from the 80's and 90's have made a lot of money because of what they did. In this economy especially or even in a better economy, it is better for you to be called a geek by studying good and getting good grades than paying any attention to these name callers.

Focus on yourself and not what other people think. Nowadays you can get some hot looking glasses. personally, there are a lot of girls I know that look much hotter in their glasses. Use wearing glasses to your advantage.

No, spectacles do not make you a geek. Being a geek makes you a geek.

You are in college and people are calling you names? Seriously? What state are you in? I'll be sure to keep my future kids out of it! Or are these your friends messing around with you?

Tell them to go to hell or just ignore them.

Hey!

As a fellow glasses wearer i feel i have to answer your question! I found out i needed glasses when i was 15, and to be honest at the time i was really upset, but after seeing the awesome designs that are out now a days, i couldn't resist. Glasses have been associated for too long with being geeky and ugly, but i say it's time we start the domination! So many celebrities and people who don't even need glasses are starting to wear them now because they are the trend! I have a couple of pairs that go with most outfits and bags that i have, and people love them. Stand up, and walk into your class proud with a pair of funky glasses, and who cares what else anyone says, it doesn't matter if you walk in wearing a clown suit... own the room anyway! Confidence is key, and glasses are hot!

Go for it! xoxoxox

A male reader, Mr Me United States +, writes (5 March 2009):

Mr Me agony auntI'm going to counter you with this question: Who cares?

My current girlfriend thinks I'm incredibly hot without my glasses on, but thinks I'm just as handsome with them on.

In other words, glasses or not, you are a person behind those specs! And, if you're on the prowl for true love, then the guy you find won't care if you wear specs or not!

A reader, anonymous, writes (5 March 2009):

Stop wearing them because others said you look geeky? What is this? High school politics all over again?

[sigh]

What if people start saying that wearing pants are geeky too, then will you stop wearing pants to school? What if people start saying that having anything but black hair is geeky? Will you dye your hair black too? What if people say going into art is geeky, then are you going to go into finance?

Do whatever you want.

StudentOfLife agony auntUp to you really, remember that in order to be successful you must sometime don't pay attention to what others tell you.

I'm sure Bill Gates was called geek once.

"Be careful what you say to a geek, you might end up working for one."

A female reader, TasteofIndia United States +, writes (5 March 2009):

TasteofIndia agony auntNever in a billion years!!!

Glasses are the hotness! I've been wearing glasses forever and when offered the chance to move to contacts, I say NEVER! Glasses are such an awesome accessory - you have two looks! With glasses, without glasses. Sexy librarian, just sexy. Trust me when I say, I've never had a problem getting attention with or without the glasses. And there are tons of babes in spects out there. Not to mention, tons of super, super cool people. I read somewhere that 96 million people wear some sort of corrective glasses. That's an awful lot of people out there!

Lord knows why people are calling you a geek, especially at college. Those people are clearly just jerks. They still would be even if you didn't have your glasses on.

Listen, sister. Don't let these morons make you feel bad. They're just nasty people. You keep your glasses on so that you can see them clearly for who they really are - lame-o's who have nothing else better to do with their time than act like Kindergartners.

Good luck, sweetness!

A male reader, ArmyMedic United Kingdom +, writes (5 March 2009):

ArmyMedic agony auntThey may call you a geek because you are clever and studying science but to hell with them, it's good to be clever and geeky is in this year.

There is nothing wrong with glasses, I think my wife looks gorgeous in hers as it frames her eyes. There are lots of glasses on the market just find ones that really suit you.

If you are really self-conscious there is always contact lenses.

So in conclusion Glasses are not geeky, and if you are going to stop wearing them, get contacts, as going with out will cause your eye sight to worsen and may cause severe headaches.
