Question - (2 January 2011) 15 Answers - (Newest, 6 January 2011)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

so first off my boyfriend and i have never had sex.

okay two nights ago my boyfriend and i were messing around on the couch (like he was rubbing himself on me but not going in) and he kind of slipped and went in maybe an inch or so but not all the way and he quickly pulled out without thrusting or anything.

but i dont know if i can call it sex because by deffinition sex is when a a penis is put in to a vigina although i would think there would have to be more to it then that.

so my question is did my boyfriend and i have sex? do i have to count him now? does he have to count me?

thank you for any help

A reader, anonymous, writes (5 January 2011):

I would definatly call this sex. if he is rubbing his penis against your vagina and he 'accidently' slips in, he's teased you and had sex with you.

CrazyCowboy agony auntBy law, it is sex... By societies standards, it is not. most adults consider sex to be the willful penatration of a woman by a man, resulting in climax of one or both. Basically its up to you if count it but in a few years when you have had a couple "serious" relationships, you will probably forget all about it and if you dont it will just be a funny story you get buzzed and tell your best friend. Dont think it will reflect badly on who you are. I just cant understand that if "his" was close enough to slip into "yours", and it DID, why didnt you just get it over with?

If you risked STDs then you have to call it sex.

By the strictest definition... yes. As soon as a penis enters your vagina, or ANY other orifice in your body, in ANY capacity for ANY amount of time... it's sex.

Plain an simple.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (2 January 2011):

chigirl agony auntRubbing is sex. Intercourse on the other hand is to have the penis in the vagina. And by the sounds of it you didn't have full intercourse (still enough to get you pregnant though).

Sex however can be anything sexual, even kissing. It all depends on how you choose to define it. But whatever it is you do when you are both naked or showing/touching reproductive organs IS sex. Even if it's just rubbing up against each other. So don't be naive. You've had sex.

I really disagree with the general yes here

It was just a slip! It was not sex, it didn't go in deep and it was immediately taken out!

Did he wear a condom? If he didnt and he just slipped an inch you cud get pregnant. Even if your a virgin you can still get pregnant because he was near and in your virgina.

A female reader, dmartin89 United Kingdom +, writes (2 January 2011):

dmartin89 agony auntYes, this is sex I'm afraid!

Even if the glads of the penis go into the vagina half an inch, that is counted as sex.

But if you want to count it as a number, that's your choice.

If you were a virgin before, you would have lost your virginity.

A male reader, Eva9 United States +, writes (2 January 2011):

It depends on wether or not ur serious with this guy, and if ur ready for sex, if u guys aren't very serious and may break up, I wouldn't say it's sex. And if having sex imbarases u I wouldn't call it sex. But me and this guy were just playin with each other and I consider it a hand job. Of course when I said that we 'had sex' he broke it off.it truly matters what king of person he and u are. Yes I'd say it was sex though. Good luck

A male reader, LovelessAct1 United States +, writes (2 January 2011):

I guess biologically you are still a virgin considering your hymen did not break.

Otherwise, I always say it depends on your personal beliefs. Some cultures and religions suggest that pleasuring one another in a sexual way can be considered as sex.

I personally think that, no, it doesn't count as sex. You did not experience the breaking of the hymen and he did not ejaculate inside of you. The terms are, of course, iffy, but its honestly up to you whether or not you want to believe it was sex. Don't let it get you down.
