hey agony aunts and uncles. i recently sent in this question but for some reason it didnt get posted so im going to try again lol! im on the pill microgynon 30 at the moment, my boyfriend and i have been having sex for nearly 2 months now. i started taking the pill about 3 weeks ago, ive just finished my first packet. we've always been very safe; used a condom and everything, even when i started on the pill. but we have now had sex without any other protection (no condom) and the other night, for the first time, he ejaculated inside me. i was just wondering how effective the pill is? my doctor specifically said that if im taking it correctly then there is NO need for a condom. but ive heard other people say thats not quite true. obviously i would believe my doctor over them, i just wanted to check. because up until the other day id only been told what my doctor had told me.. but now i guess im a little paranoid that its not as effective as i thought. ive only ever missed one pill, and i took it the next day and continued the packet as normal. so am i alright? not going to get pregnant or anything am i... ? thanks!

There are other methods that are far more effective than the contraceptive pill, you must remember that it is still possible to get pregnant on the pill but it is very very rare. A condom is the safest method of contraception but even they fail sometimes. So long as you are taking your pill correctly you shouldn't have an issue...

A female reader, anonymous, writes (14 March 2010):

Hey,

dont worry about it! myself and my bf have been going out for two and a half years and ive been on the pill Cliest for the whole time weve been together. the pill is a good form of contraception, but gotta remember that if you vomited, had dirarehea, or took medication cos you were sick that these mess with the effectiveness of the pill.

so if you do suffer from any of these things while on the pill dont forget to use a condom! also when you start the next packet of the pill you gotta use condom for the first week cos it doesnt really get into your system until then!

hope this helps :)

kayla20 agony auntthe pill is effective as long as you take it correctly however its not 100% sure to stop you from falling pregnant because all it takes is for you to be ill and the pill might not work or even if you miss your pill you could fall pregnant best thing to do is if you have sex and no you have missed your pill go and take the morning after pill.the pill is quite effective but if your worried then double dutch it with a condom and the pill

It's 99% effective against pregnancy. Just remember that it does not protect against STD's and won't be effective if you're ill. Other than that, you should be perfectly fine.

The Realist agony auntIts proven to be 99% effective when taken continuouly so you should be fine. People will still suggest condoms more for std's but if it is just you and your bf that should not be a problem. Trust the doctors and the science behind it, there are alot of myths out there that keep popping up about random problems that may occur but really only happen one in a million or less.

Hope this eases your mind.
