I did not get mine till I was 17...a senior in high school. That is really late and it is really rare to get it that late but in general most girls have it by 16. So badically I am still kind of new at this thing. lol

Now I'm 17 and pregnant, it wasn't planned but in a way I feel relieved that I can have children because friends told me because I started so late it was a bad sign [they lied! but I was only young so that's probably why they said it]

My aunt had hers when she was 16. She's 22 now and she had her last period a year ago. I had mine when I was ten and I have heavy flow ever month. Don't worry about it. Your body will mature when its good and ready.

Masturbation is fine whether or not you have started you period yet.
I had one period at age nine - and then didn't start my periods on a regular basis until I was 14 1/2. That just shows you how very different we all are! Don't worry, it will start in it's own good time! Take care Hun!

My oldest daughter was an athlete on both the track team and the cross country team and because of all the physical activity she didn't start menstruating until she was almost 16, and even then her periods were few and far between. However her younger sister started at the age of 12. So even in the same family it can vary. Don't worry sweetheart, nature takes her course with all of us.

Don't worry at all - everyone is different. Seriously, there's nothing wrong. So don't worry ok :] If you have any problems when you do start, just talk to me. I'm here for you :]

You can come on your period anytime between the ages of 10 and 16 so don't be worried that you haven't started yet. Try and make the most of it... sometimes my period stops me from doing things i enjoy doing. And masturbation has nothing to do with period so it's fine =]xXx

A
reader, anonymous, writes (24 January 2008): Masturbation and your period are in no way related, so don't worry. :) I didn't get mine until a month after my 14th birthday because I really really skinny. I started after I started hanging around my 'fat friends' a lot more and I started eating like crazy when I was around them. My mother started at twelve, and my grandmother started at 14. Take your grandmother's age when she started and your mother's and divide by two. That might help you get a better idea of when to expect it. And when it comes...it probably won't be anything spectacular like you expect. A few little pink smears, perhaps.

An aunt? Your Mom? Or maybe a school nurse or a school counsellor? They will all tell you the same thing, but it might make you feel better.Masturbation is still okay. Even if you haven't had a period, it won't do you any physical harm. You might want to make sure that you keep your fingernails short (in case you scratch your skin).

Hun, Every girl is different, some girls dont start their periods until they are 16!! Its perfectly normal, and you shouldnt worry about it.With so many changes happening to your body, its perfectly natural to want to explore your body, investigate the changes etc, after all, you'll be starting to feel things you didnt before and masturbating is a perfectly normal way of reacting to this, you dont need to have your period for it!!! x

NORMAL 100%! Some girls don't get it until they're 16. When you get it, you'll wish you didn't have it, so enjoy the maxipad-less freedom. And as for masturbation, it's perfectly okay. Do it and enjoy it. :)
