What would happen if you were to take a pregnancy test if you believed you had become pregnant through failure of the contraception, would it be positive even if you werent pregnant?

YES a pregnancy test can read positive when you are not pregnant! The test is not going to read positive because of birth control, however; If you receive a positive result from a home pregnancy test it is important to follow up with your doctor for medical care. First to find out if you ARE pregnant for sure and if you're not, then there is a chance, although it is not common, certain rare medical conditions can cause positive results on a home pregnancy test. Certain forms of cancer, such as choriocarcinoma (an extremely rare type of cancer usually found in the uterus) can cause an elevation in hCG levels as well as certain types of breast, ovarian or testicular cancer leading to a false positive result.5. Defective pregnancy testExpired tests or faulty home pregnancy tests can also lead to false positive results. Always check the expiration date before testing to assure accurate results. Keep in mind, even with the highest quality control, an occasional defective test may occurand no disrespect to Anonymous either, but I took a home pregnancy test, it read POSITIVE... went to the doctor and theirs read NEGATIVE!!!! So the test they use can be just as misleading/WRONG. I demanded a blood test to prove I was or was not pregnant and it was POSITIVE. So... my home pregnancy test was correct and the DOCTORS wasn't.Hope this helps sweetie... good luckMichelle

No disrespet anon but i went to the docs after having a positive result only to be informed it didn't need confirming with their tests as they were all exactly the same ones used.

Thats why a human being with half a brain goes to the Doctor to confirm these things.

Hi Anonymous,
I really think that this type of question should be taken to your doctor - while it's great to have friends all over the world respond to your question on this fantastic site, when it relates to something directed at your health or a possible pregnancy, I really think you need to take it straight to a doctor so that you get the correct answer.
Good luck with your question,
