Why do I smell weirdly down "there"? Is this normal for me (I'm a 13 yr old girl who has already got her period)? If it's not normal what should I do? Help??

person12345 agony auntI agree, doesn't sound like anything. You'll notice if something is "off." The bottoms of my underwear is usually yellowish too... Your discharge changes a lot throughout your cycle. Unless you notice something totally out of the ordinary, like really off texture, smell, or it just feels gross (itching, burning, etc...) you're probably fine.

A daily stain on the underwear is normal. It'll look yellowish on white/pale underwear and white on black/dark underwear. All women get it.

It's only something to worry about if the smell is offensive (fishy or yeasty) or if you constantly itch like mad. I think you're normal.

Taking showers or baths daily won't rid of the smell because you pee many times a day, and poo at least once. Unless you jump in the shower each time, the wipes are good.

Do you itch, hurt, or feel uncomfortable down there? You should tell your mom or an adult who you feel comfortable with and see a doctor. If you have no one to turn to, you can call the nearest Plan Parenthood and see what they can do.

in that case it sounds like you are perfectly normal; every woman has that slight discharge. If you really find that the staining of underwear is a problem for you, then buy the DISCREET ultra thin panty liners. They are as thick as a single piece of tissue (really) and come in packs of 40. Just put one on your knickers every day and you can't even feel you are wearing it. Also get into the habit of moving with a spare pair of panties in your bag like most adult women do so that if you have to go somewhere in the evening before you can go home first to take a shower, at least a fresh clean pair will help you stay confident

I already use an unscented soap and wash almost everyday. It isn't a really strong smell but I have a daily yellowish discharge that stains my underwear (sorry if it sounded gross but it's true).

person1234 gives good advice. I agree with all of it. "Bready" and "fishy" smells should always be investigated by a doctor. Don't use any kind of washing product, except mild soap and water, unless a doctor advises you to. I really would avoid the hydrogen peroxide idea that was suggested. It has an anti-bacterial effect but this should not be necessary and can actually cause yeast infections by altering the vaginas natural balance of flora (friendly bacteria). Worse than that, use too much hydrogen peroxide and you could cause a nasty burn to your private parts.

The vagina does have a smell, which is normal. The smell witll be stronger when you are having your period. Our own "body smells" are usually far more noticeable to us than they are to others. You should not really be able to smell your self through day clothes, however so if the smell is really strong, it might be worth having a chat with your doctor.

person12345 agony auntEveryone has a smell down there, usually described as musky. It's pretty strong on me when it's normal, trust me. Especially if I don't shower all day, yuck. As for rubbing yourself with hydrogen peroxide? Do NOT do that! Ouch!!!! Also, never, ever try a douche. All you need to do is get an unscented soap (they make special ones for those areas) and gently wash between everything, not inside. Just do this every time you shower and you won't smell out of ordinary. Things that are out of ordinary:

A strong, bread-like smell. This could be a yeast infection and needs a doc.

A really foul fish smell usually means an infection and also needs a doc.

Learn to accept your smell, it is how you will always smell. I remember being concerned about this at your age too. Just soap and water should do it. You'll always have a smell, trust me when you get older guys will really like it mostly. Don't do anything drastic like peroxide, yowza that sounds painful!

Everyone has a little bit of a smell down there, it's stronger to you than it is to others. However, you would need to describe it more to know for sure if it's just normal or if it is some kind of infection. If you are getting green or yellow-ish smelly discharge you might have an infection. However, some discharge is normal. I'd say you are probably fine or you would have said more.

A female reader, To A New Life United States +, writes (14 December 2009):

Our body is covered with bacterias, and it is normal. The bacterias are divided into aerobic or anaerobic. The bacterias down there, in your mouth, or anywhere that's not exposed to air are anaerobic bacterias. They don't need oxygen to live, but like all living things eat, drink, poo, pee, and pass gas. What you are smelling is their gas.

To rid of that smell you need to decrease the number of bacteria you have down there. You'll need:

1. Unscented baby wipes

2. hydrogen peroxide

Pure about a cup of hydrogen peroxide into the unscented baby wipes. Keep it covered and out of the light, on top of your toilet is perfect.

Wipe yourself like you normally do after you pee or poo, then use 1 or 2 wipes, front to back after you pee. 3 or more after you poo until it comes clean, usuall 5 or 6 unless your poo is real hard.

If you make a habit of this, you'll "never" smell down there, you'll won't get infections down there. And, you can use those wipes for your face to rid of acnes too.

Good luck and don't feel bad. All girls have that type of issues at one time or another.
