A male Canada age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I grew up in one of the biggest cities in North America. I’ve accepted baseball and McDonalds, but what I can't accept are there BS " morals ".

Whenever it comes to love, sex or any other issue people turn to the book of lies, distortion and general propaganda, The Bible. They even go as far as to create laws based on this piece of crap. Remember prejudice towards Blacks and Asians? Or how about lesbians and gays? Or certain cultures?

They were all discriminated against just because some redneck leader told us all that our personal beliefs are wrong unless they match the bible and laws based on it. For the most part, these dedicated followers aren't even reading the damn thing right or they choose to "omit" some parts that don't fit their insane puritanical frame.

For example, they (redneck leaders) say that sexual relations with cousins and other blood relations are immoral and against god. However they fail to mention: Adam and Eve. Hmmmmmmm..... Let’s see two strangers had sex, so far so good. But wait! As time passes their children have sex amongst themselves as well as with mommy and daddy!*GASP* Most churches chose not to go "In detail" about "What happened".

You see? Not only are these "well bred" leaders using it as a method for control but the book itself is flawed! I can go into other examples, because I respect site etiquette "Don't make your question too long...".

George Bush and many other horrible "Leaders" used the bible as a tool for gaining power including censorship. It only causes wars and pain, like many other religions (The crusades anyone?).

Have I opened your eyes? Now before you grab a bottle of tap water dubbed holy and sprinkle it on your monitor and chant some holy BS, re-read this and answer the following question objectively.

Why are westerners so easily influenced by this huge stack of toilet paper (bible)?

OR if you don't like the wording:

Why are westerners so prejudice, ignorant Bible lovers?

A male reader, redimerfortitudo United States +, writes (13 May 2008):

Alright man, first you need to relax. Yes religious people have done many bad things in the past but that doesn't mean religion is bad. When you say that the "rednecks" used the Bible to justify their enslavement of blacks because the Bible justified it, you are completely wrong. The verse in the Bible is about submitting and respecting authority(sounds fair to me or else there would be anarchy all the time). Slaves in those times weren't treated anything compared to how blacks were treated here on the American colonies. Slaves back then were usually conquered people who after a couple of years could later buy their way out. They were also treated more as servants than slaves. Somebody also commented on how religion controls children. Bro don't be ridiculous. A smart parent knows that most kids can't be trusted to do things on their own. They are still too immature.

Now about the Adam and Eve thing. I want you to go to the book of Genesis. You will find a verse there that says that God created MEN AND WOMEN. I find it odd how people believe Adam and Eve were the original. I believe God just chose to focus on them to write about. Now if you had read the Bible, you would have found evidence that there were others around and NOWHERE does it say people had sex with their mothers to reproduce. I don't even know why u would rant about that unless you wanted to have an incestrous relationship.

In regards to some comments on here, Christianity is not controlling. I find that people that don't like Christianity because they don't like to be told what to do. Thats fine. Don't do what they tell you at church because thats what they tell you to do. Verify it in the Bible. Now if you don't like what the Bible has to say then your in trouble. The Bible does not promote anything bad. Just look at the 10 commandments and find me something there thats bad. I bet the only thing you can find in the Bible is that it doesn't approve of homosexuality. The homosexuality it disapprove of is the type that develops from sexual corruption - kinda like society today. There are homosexuals who are born gay, but the majority of people who engage in homosexual activity are not born gay. For Example, I know for a fact all those girls on Girls Gone Wild are not gay. This just leads to disrespect for women. As guys watch this, they just lose respect for girls. Guys know a days aren't interested in protecting the image of girls. Nowadays they just want to screw as many as they can and want them to dress all slutty and be promiscuous. This is what the Bible warns against. One thing leads to another. We get a society addicted to pornography, then we get a society focused on sexuality, then we get skyrocketing divorce rates because people don't focus on the right things, then we get dysfunctional children, and the whole next generation is worse than the last.

Religion provides a way of hope and inspiration. You guys from other religions damn Christianity because of the corrupt Churches. Thats fine, I'll admit the churches are corrupt but the churches do not define Christianity. I will put you up to the challenge. Just try to find how Buddhism or any other religion promotes as much love,compassion, and mercy for one another as Christianity. Christianity has the deepest message of love and mercy than any other religion. Tell me, how should we live our life? Secluded, meditating, following a religious agenda, trying to achieve nirvana, performing rituals 5 times a day, OR trying to better society by promoting love, compassion, and morals?

Aeval agony auntYou sir are a fool.

Have you by any chance had sex with a member of your family? Is that what you are bleating about it becuase it's against the law??

All cultures have religion and all cultures have their own version of a bible.

It tells a nice story, most people use it today as a guide it gives people hope and peace of mind. I can't think of one way it is "ruling" the world. Its just a nice thing for people to have...where is the harm? No differnce between a Christian, Muslim, Catholic or Jewish bible. They all do the same thing, Hope and peace of mind.

In western culture today (I shall include Asian also as I am based in Australia) there is no one "christian" country anymore, most places are mulitcultural. Maybe when you save your pocket money and travel a tad you will see this.

Alothough there is much work to be done, there have been massive changes worldwide to accept or at the very least tolorate cultural difference.

Now, Apologies have been made for slavery and alikes. PM Kevin Rudd said sorry to the indidginous Australians this year,and other countries have done the same. Sadly although racisim happens the more we learn the better we become (its not as bad today as it was 50 years ago. With a bit of luck in 50 years from now it will be even better)

Either you are trying to start an argument, have fiddled with a sibling and are feeling guilty or are just uneducated, whatever the case maybe I suggest learning a little more about the world and it's people before having a bleat?

Seratuki agony aunthi

Well...this an interesting post, and I have to say I agree with question asker on some points...I was raised Christian and want everyone to know I have the utmost respect for everyones beleifs so if anything I say rubs anyone the wrong way I hope you respect me the same.

I'm now Wiccan, I converted at the age of 17 after what I saw my local church do...you see I dated a man for 4 years before he came out and told me he was gay until the church convinced him god would "cure" him and that if he didn't stop he would burn in hell for it...

I watch him struggle with it every day now as we are still close although no longer in a romantic relationship. To this day he thinks these feelings jusr went away, but I've seen the things he has hidden under his mattress and in the back of his closet and I know he is lying to himself.

My heart hurts when I think of the joy he is missing because of the church....it's all scare tactics.

I also have a problem with an all mighty god creating life out of nothing and sitting up on this high horse pulling everyones strings!

I don't believe new life can be created without a female influence, and I believe the bible does not depict things correctly in the sense that it has been translated and re translated so much I am sure we have gotten some things very very wrong.

I believe in both a god and a goddess, one can not exist without the other, new life doesn't begin without the influence of both of them working together.

Wicca also teaches a much more clear cut set of rules, it's not so strict on following along like a bunch of clones.

[Unquote]

You hit the nail on the head.I fully agree with you.

To me the Bible can be summed up into two major laws.

1) Love God with all your heart, your soul and your spirit.

2)Love your neighbour as yourself.

All the other laws that are found in the Bible are ultra vires.

No one can follow all those laws .

They are only meant to show you that you have sinned and you need God's grace to be saved.

You cannot be saved by your own deeds.

If you know all the laws, what good is it if you have no love?

You will be just like an empty gong.

Therefore , it is useless to argue about Christian dogma

and we should accept people as they are and be not judgmental of them.

For in the end we are only answerable to God and not to

another Christian who thinks his ways are right and your ways are wrong.

A male reader, oldfool Australia +, writes (12 May 2008):

oldfool agony auntI believe what you wrote is technically known as a "rant".

Much of what you criticise has to do with social attitudes, not religion. Christians don't have to be prejudiced against Blacks or Asians. It's not part of their religion. The fact that some (or even many) are so prejudiced actually has nothing to do with the Bible and a lot to do with closed and narrow thinking. (They may, of course, be prejudiced against lesbians or gays because the Bible tends to be against such sexual acts.)

Christians don't have a monopoly on intolerance by any means. One time I remember listening to a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk saying how women were the root of all evil, because they seduce men away from the true path! You will find such benighted attitudes anywhere, from Christians to Buddhists to atheists.

However, religion does have an unfortunate side effect: whereas most people try to rely on reasoned argument to back up their views, people who believe in religion have an annoying habit of falling back on a dogmatic 'higher authority' to prove that they are right. The fact that they quote scripture doesn't make them right -- often they are completely wrong and biased -- but it does make them sound smug, holier than thou, and impervious to rational argument. Again, that is not all Christians, but there are enough of them to be annoying, especially if their particular prejudices have become orthodox in certain geographical areas or segments of society. Perhaps that is what makes you so angry at the Bible.

I didn't mean God was controlling you, I meant that the religious teachings are controlling. Also, everyone is included in the wonderful things God provides us on this earth. How you interact with God is not his doing but your own. Again, Jesus would have been more understanding and compassionate, and would have spoken in a non-defensive manner that would have only provided an opinion for them to think through. Religious organization tell this is the way it will be, such as having an opinion is blasphemy. God understands the we humans will need time to understand, for we are all his children.

Interesting though, back around the 1600's, the British King/leader; the French ruler and I recall the German ruler, all were creating and discussing human rights. There are a few different names, but they all are similar in nature to what is called natural law. The English referred theirs as Common law: rights of all humans. This implementation of rights was a huge step in comparison to what religions had and still teach today. Religions stick to hard line views without understanding the underlying cause, such as abortion. When we create laws based on these religious teachings, we are not compassionate and instead destroy (throw stones) and create more victims. This is not what God intended and Jesus practiced.

Even when we speak the same language, we still speak in different languages: see to people argue a point, there both right, but neither sees this.

A reader, anonymous, writes (11 May 2008):

Interesting reading here.

I agree with the Bush was better compared to John Kerry; Bush was the lessor of two evils. We have the same perdicament with Obama; Clinton and McCain. All three are unworthy of the position of president, but that is all we have, and like religion, people have been sold a bill of good.

Religion is the root of all evil. Why was that phrase created? Because heads of churches, including all religions, not just christian, catholic and muslim, but all of them have done things that God; Jesus and Mohammed would have detested. It is even written in the bible that God did not approve of the going ons in the church, preaching what they do in his name.

We have people who will die for there religion but not for there country reminds me of Jim Jones, where followers blindly followed his preachings to there death.

People who cling to religion defame all around them when they say "guess what God did to me today", or "what has God planned for me today". This is nutty talk; you control your destiny, and the Bible offers help in getting through it, but very few people understand its purpose, its purpose is "to teach your young of the past so they will not repeat it". Sadly, they all repeat it!

It was mentioned, which is very true, that we all want to feel like we belong to a group, religious groups take it to far; look at the religions that accused women of witchery. How dumb is that? Only someone with a lack of inteligence could think of such a thing.

Other countries have more problems then religion, they have horrible governmental leaders. Myanmar has lost upwords of 20,000 people. Countries around the world have offered to come in and help in the rescue. The country said no, just send us money. The country is more interested in elections then they are of the people. So we can all point fingers, but we all need to learn to live with one another and reach mutual ground of understanding, which will not happen if people cling to the false teachings of there religion. If the teachings cannot not be questioned, then they are being controlled like rats. Catholics, christens and muslims are this way: controlled. When these people realize it, they will take the good and leave the bad and demand the truth instead of lies.

by the way to awnswer your questions (only the best way i can):

1) we arnt prejudice towards Blacks and Asians? Or lesbians and gays? Or certain cultures? (not all christians anyways) i actually have many lesbian, gay, black, asian, preppy, gothic, punk, and athiest friends. (no some of them arnt always the people i hang out with on weekend)but Jesus tells us to love everyone. this is harder for some more than others... and by the way christians arnt the only people who are "prejudice"....

2)and adam and eve, God comanded them to be fruitful and multiply. and if you read on there is a place in the bible when God told "that" to stop (but if you want to get down to it we are all related somehow because wwe all came from adam and eve)

3)as far as being close minded um.. you might want want to take a "self check" on that one what with your post and all. your not really giving much room for varitity. you pretty much have your mind made up on this one.. and im not being close minded. as a matter of fact i use to think the same exact way you did (read to message below for better understanding of that)

hope i clear a few things up!!!

by the way im sorry if i came across as mean... i wasnt trying to. just saying these things the best way i know how!!

oh and let me ask you a question...

say im wrong in my beliefs. i die just to find out i was wrong. you were right. i worshiped God my whole life, i tryed to do my best, be on best behaiver and i helpep do some good for a few people along the way. okay..

now lets say i am right. you die and you go to hell. for eternaty. you burn, never dying forever. you scream in agony but no one hears you. your lost, always. wouldnt you rather play it safe and do it my way? if just not going to hell was the only reason i lived for God it would be enough for me!!! that is plenty enough reason for this girl!!

A female reader, all i need United States +, writes (11 May 2008):

im sorry this is so long:

let me start with hello. my name is Shekinah. (which if you dont know means: tha glory of God. it is an angels name. and i still dont understand why i was given this wonderful, such meaningful and honorable name. i use to despise it foe its meaning, but now i realize how much of blessing it is...) -please never call the bible a piece of crap again. it is very hurtful to me. yes, i am a christian. yes i am saved by the grace of God almighty. yes i would die for what i believe in because i believe what i believe in is right. as a matter of fact, i know. i know in my heart and my soul that there is something, someone greater out there than what we have in this world. there is mothing to live for here. with out God there is no love, because God is love. it physically hurts me to think of you. to thik of how black your heart is (please do not take this offensively) because i love you. no, i dont know you, but because of God i can love you. i can love anyone and everyone no matter what theyve done to me or how much they hate me for what i believe in (but thats okay but they just dont understand). if you dont know God, how can you know love? that is who He is. i didnt know love before i knew God. i use to hate God. i hated him with a passion. i thought i knew everything, but i knew nothing. im sorry you feel you need to go to other people for answers that most people dont know. your asking for opinions here, not facts. yes you can say my religion is an opinion not a fact but even in your own heart you know God is real. wiether you "know" it or not. why else would you go through all the trouble to ask about christianity (or insult it)? because in your heart you know God is the only way. i dont see you bashing budism, or muslism. i dont see you asking about their religion or insulting so hard. why do you think that is? i will pray for you every night from now on and i want you to know im not judging you. that is not my place only God can judge because we all sin. we are all sinners, we were all born that way. yes a lot of christians do judge and are hypocrits but you cant base the entire relgion on what a few have done wrong. if everyone did that (which most poeple try to) then this world would have no faith. and believe it or not it takes a lot more "faith" to belive in nothing rather than to believe in God. i so hope that you realize that God loves you and wants relationship with you. when you are ready to love God and find the best in life you could possibly ask for, GOd will be waiting with open arms. He will never give up on you. He wants you to spend eternaty with him in heaven as do i. (because heaven and hell are both very real. again i will pray, i will believe and i will hope one day i will get to spen eternaty with you.

i love you,

God loves you and wants a personal relationship with you. (more than you could ever know)

A female reader, Laura1318 Malaysia +, writes (11 May 2008):

Laura1318 agony auntIt is very simple to me.

I choose to believe in God and the Bible.

If you do not believe , that is your right.

Before , I was very anti God but now I have found the truth and it has set me free.

I may not agree with other Christians in their outlooks.

People may profess their atheist belief but when the bombs start falling ,

they will hide in their foxholes and called out to God.

Even if you do not believe in the Bible,

there is the Universal law, the common law and karma .

Whatever you sow , so shall you reap.

You may not follow those morals and have no morals or do whatever you want.

You are a law unto yourself.

I like this poem.

Mother Teresa hung a copy of this poem on a wall of the

orphanage she founded in Calcutta. Its source is unknown.

People are often unreasonable,

illogical and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind,

People may accuse you

of selfish, ulterior motives;

Be Kind anyway.

If you are successful,

you will win some false friends and

some true enemies;

Succeed anyway. people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building,

someone could destroy overnight;

Build anyway

If you find serenity and happiness,

they may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,

people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,

and it may never be enough;

Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis.

it is between you and God;

It is never between you and them anyway.

A reader, anonymous, writes (11 May 2008):

The problem is that so many people are not taught correctly about the bible. And if the bible is not translated properly it can cause problems.

For example, in Luke Chapter 23 verse 43 of the King James version it talks about Jesus speaking to the two evil doers hung on stakes on either side of him. It says, quoting Jesus; "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."

Obviously they were not in paradise with him that day, Jesus was dead for three days.

However, other translations such as the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, which is the one I use, quotes him this way; "Truly I tell you today, you will be with me in paradise."

Same exact wording but one little misplaced comma changed the whole meaning of what Jesus said.

As far as prejudice, in true footstep followers of Jesus Christ there is no room for prejudice. All people are created by God so no race is superior or inferior to another.

Think how Noah would have viewed prejudice seeing how he had one son that was dark skinned and another with slanted or almond shaped eyes.

Also, there are so many religions out there, how would you possibly be able to tell the true religion?

Jesus said at John 13:35, “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.”

How much love do you see in the world today? Not much is there?

There is a way that you can find out all these things like what the bible really does teach. You can get all your questions about the bible answered.

It will cost you nothing but the time to investigate it if you really want to know.

You will also find out what our loving creator really wants for us and what is required of us to attain it.

There is a book called; "What does the bible really teach?"

You can get this and the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures just by following the link provided. You can also get the other publications listed, all at no cost.

God's word is not for sale. However, it does cost to print these publications and they do accept voluntary donations.

All the publications direct you to the bible and where to find the information each publication speaks about. They are simply bible study aids.

Please check them out for yourself.

You can also have a study of the bible in your home absolutely free of charge and with no obligation or strings of any kind attached.

Yeah, when I was your age, I pondered the same questions. So much in fact that I turned to mind expanding drugs to seek some answers. These hypocrits you speek of are not just westerners, they are everywhere. I got a lot from expanding my mind, but when I got out of high school, I took a few college classes in world religion. Thats where I found many answers. Fact is the most popular religion in the whole word with the most followeres are Musliums. These "rednecks" you speak of are the minority, and even though they overwhelm your reality, if you leave that zone, you will see that. So many people need the bible because it keeps them in check. We have evolved minds, and no longer need that false athority. If they are this screwed up with the bible, could you even imagine how messed up they would be without it? I suggest, instead of pointing and judging, to be your own missionary, spread your word through positive action. You were put there for a reason, maybe these people need you. I am impressed that you show an intrest in this subject. It's rare, and so important. I am now learning about the Buddhist faith, and lemmi tell you, no other faith has made more sence to me. No artificial text, no hypocritical word. Be in the now, reflect what you want to recieve and let go of all materialistic ego. Buddha found enlightenment from a hard lesson, searching for the "right way of faith" in a time where it wasnt acceptable. Females were nothing, If you were born in a lower cast system, you were nothing. Sidartha (Buddha) was born in the highest cast system, and gave it up in search for enlightenment. So, if this answer does nothing else for you, be like Sidartha! Mentally, physically remove yourself from that level of thought, discover your truth and spread the word hon!

A male reader, anonymous, writes (11 May 2008):

For one thing, western Christians don't exactly have a monopoly on stupid religious beliefs & behaviors. Every major religion on earth has some points of trouble by the time it's gotten several hundred years old.

As for the Bible: If you want to hate Christainity, there's plenty of ammunition in there to get you started. But by doing this, I don't think you're really playing fair.

The book is a compilation of writings several thousand years old from multiple different authors, places, viewpoints, etc. OF COURSE there are rough spots. (If we rejected every old civilization that had things in their beliefs that we didn't like, then we would basically have to hate every civilization on earth. Past OR present.)

You need to separate your view of that historical & religious book from the actions and teachings of certain modern people who claim to follow it. Any major religion on earth has some wack-jobs who take its teachings and twist them around to prove all kinds of bad things. There are bad things in the Bible right alongside the good things and everything in between. That doesn't make the book bad. It just makes the book a reflection of everyone who has written & edited it over the centuries.

As for George W. Bush and the rest of the American public? Oh, get over it. You're not gonna say anything that hasn't alreay been said hundreds of times.

Bush got elected with some HELP from the extreme religious voters to push his percentages past the edge. He didn't win PRIMARILY with religious-minded votes.

Half the American public just barely thought he was a better choice than the alternative candidate at the time of the two elections. (And if GWB could be on the ballot again in 2008, even many of his supporters in 2000 and 2004 would no longer vote for him now.) The American public actually has more or less changed their mind about him, it just took a couple years too long before it happened.

Funny, this isn't a sitcom for SNL is it?

There is nothing wrong with the bible, it tells a story of long ago. Some churches use passages wrongly and convince their followers that it means something else: catholics and christens have done a pretty good job of it. The sad thing is though, that what they preach, is not the way Jesus would have handled it. Jesus was forgiving, whereas the preacher and followers create laws to victimize troubled people. I guess it makes them feel good that they got the lesser person compared to them off the streets.

The bible actually can be very valuable if you take your time and have an open mind. The bible to me discloses the problems I will face in my life time, though it is hard to relate from long ago to todays world.

The best thing you can do, is learn the right message of the bible, then present it and debate it with those that aren't aware of the true meaning. Churches acquire wealth, and they need to convince people that they need the church. Don't get me wrong, some churches are good.

Stayc63088 agony auntYou may get some very mean answers from your post. The only thing I disagree with would be the westerners part. There are bible lovers or whatever you called them EVERYWHERE. I agree with you. I have always wondered why someone would follow and base their lives on a book that has no proof it is real... No one knows there is a God. No one. No one knows what happens after you die. And it is fine to believe what you want but when they start forcing it on other people and judging everyone else is when I get mad. And like one woman I know bases her LIFE on the bible... Everything she does she makes sure it is ok first. I just don't get how that is a great fulfilling life? Like why not have your own mind and think for yourself instead of having this fear of how to act cause you may go to hell? Just my opinion though, I don't need any religious people cursing me out or writing passages from the bible. My belief is that if there is a God, He knows if you are a good person deep down and that is what counts. Not that you follow a book word for word. A lot of times it makes me so angry when people do that. Like a family disowning their child because he/she is gay and it is "wrong" yet it is ok to cheat on his wife. Which is a sin. (saw it on Intervention) Thanks for this post though. It feels good to get that off my chest finally. I would put more into detail but the whole thing infuriates me. Show me some proof of what happens in the afterlife and then we can talk.

Laura1318 agony auntYou can believe whatever you want but to insult the Bible and God is blasphemy.

I will leave it to God to answer your questions and deal with you.

You shall reap what you sow.

In the US , there is a separation of powers between the state and the church.

What the president does or the state does is not synonymous with the Bible.

They can claim to represent God but they are not God.

If you do not like the Bible, no one can force you to accept it.

This post is really insensitive and can hurt the feelings of

those who believe in God and the Bible.

I just moved out west a while ago...and I find that most of them are close-minded, ignorant, and set in thier ways. I'm a total weirdo compared to them.

I'm over it. They think us Yanks are weirdos too, but there you are.
