When im awake i feel really down and dont enjoy any of the things i used to, mainly because i have no energy or no happy thoughts anymore. I went to have a blood test to see if it was anything like anemia but my blood test was fine. My doctor said it sounds like depression. Only thing was i dont have anything to be depressed about, i just started feeling this way and it slowly gets worse and worse. I just want to be back to normal.Any thoughts?

HiIt is definitely possible that you are having clinical depression. There are certain criteria that need to be fulfilled before diagnosis is made and treatment options discussed.1)The symptoms you expressed are continuous for more than two weeks2)Sleep pattern changes, poor pattern, difficulty in getting off to sleep, early waking3)Poor appetite( sometimes others may over compensate and eat more), recent weight loss4)Diurnal variation in mood, i.e. worse in the morning gradually feeling a little better in the evening5)Lack concentration, lack motivation6)Withdrawing from normal routine7)The feeling that the future is bleak8)Feeling of hopelessness9)Irritable, anxiety10)Low mood11)Lack spirit or energy12)This next symptom is always asked so please don't feel offended or threatened by it. Do you feel so bad that you think life is not worth living? If you have this feeling then do you have any plan for self-harm?If you have more than 5 of the symptoms especially the last one, please see your GP and ask for a referral for a specialist assessment. Depression is very common and can be treated easily nowadays either with medication or talk therapies or combination of both. For mild depression, exercises can help. There are two types of depression generally. One is reactive depression which is you are reacting to a situation e.g bereavement but you mentioned that you do not have any reason for feeling the way you feel. The second type is endogenous, that is you have no clear reason for your feeling so it is probably imbalance of neurotansmitters eg serotonin. If it is not depression then your Gp will need to do further tests for less obvious reasons for your symptoms. Like all the other answers, importantly is to go back to your GP for a treatment plan to get you better. I am sure your GP had checked for a lot of possibilities for your symptoms in the blood tests, like hypothyroidism, low blood sugar. What is your heart beat rate like? You can check that yourself by feeling the pulse near your wrist. Normal rate is anything between 60 to 100 per minute. If it is lower than that( unless you are a very fit athlete) then sometimes it can make you feel lethargic, tired and unwell. I am not a doctor but believe that your problem can be helped so best wishes and that you get back to health and enjoy your life.

hey
i want you to read this and take it very seriously, as i know what i'm talking about. for a few months now, all i seem to do it sleep, im always tired. i got diagnosed with another illness. but my mum thought i looked ill all the time. i got blood tests done because it seemed likely i had anaemia. but the doctor said she thought it was depression. she went through all sorts of ways of helping me, and they have been very useful. i would suggest going back to your doctor, and talking about your options. don't fight this on your own, i tried, and it made things worse.

I wrote this question.
I was tested for more things than anemia. About 4-5 were tested.
