I am now very worried that this was a silly naive thing to do and am unsure of the safety of sending a copy of my passport to strangers in another country. It was quite a few i sent it to and am now looking for some advice on if I am in danger of any sort and if there is anything I should do to reconcile this? Many thanks for your time Reply to this Question Share |

Hello.
I don't think there is really a problem about it since it is just a scanned passport, they have only details about you but that is all there is to it.
I am working in an administrative department and I am receiving lots of CV's along with their scanned/photocopied passport and certificates from some applicants and we kept some potential applicants for future references and if they have necessary documents submitted it will be less effort for us to process employment visa
But still I would suggest to just send CV to apply for a job and submit other references if they requests you to do so.

I agree with the post below. I think something might be wrong that they've asked for a passport before they've even asked for an interview or something. It might be a scam or something, so it's best to contact the Citizen's Advice here:

Make an appointment to see them or at least speak to them and tell them what has happened. They might be able to give you some better advice.

A passport contains a lot of deeply personal and restricted information. So does a CV. In many ways, you have given someone you don't know complete access to your identity. I would be very concerned, especially in terms of identity theft. You can take your passport to your local embassy or office and discuss options. I would suggest cancelling that passport if possible. As for your CV, without knowing what is on it, I don't know what all you have given away there, but again, I would be deeply concerned. Perhaps have your mail redirected to a safe PO box, or somewhere that, if someone opens a credit card in your name and stakes out your mailbox, that you don't get a whole pile of debt placed upon your name. etc. etc.If your country has local privacy commissioners, perhaps also speak with them. In any case, my hope is that - these people have good intentions and aren't trying to scam you. Hope you get a job, and not a headache. Lots of love.
