A female reader, anonymous, writes (9 February 2007):

Lust if just fancying someone when love goes much deeper. Love is when you care for someone, trust them etc. Love happens most of the time when you are in a happy relationship but there can be some exceptions to that.

birdynumnums agony auntHi,

This always worked for me -

Love is when you consider the other person and their happiness as much as your own, when you enjoy their company in total silence and when you can be yourself around them. You have the same outlook on life and want to discuss everything with them. I agree with redrobin, you feel good around them.

Lust is when you can't get him out of your head even if you know he is not good for you. You would be embarrassed to introduce him as Your Partner to your family and friends. You have nothing in common but you still dream about him - then it's probably purely physical.

A real good question to ask yourself is "Can I picture myself raising a child with this guy?" and if the first reaction you think is "Good God No!!!" - you probably are in lust rather than in love.

Lust is fine - but not the best indicator of anything long-term - but who said you wanted to marry the guy anyways...

Hope this helped.

Lust is physical attraction. Love is commitment.

kenny agony auntI think love is more long term, you think about them all the time, right from when you wake, till you put your head on the pillow to go to sleep. The one you would do anything for.

Lust is more of a short lived crush, usually involving lots of sexual feelings.

Hope this helps x

My understanding?

Love - First person you think off when you wake. Last person you think of before sleep.

Lust - Only when you have time!
