A female reader, anonymous, writes (27 October 2010):

Both! And I don't think they're mutually exclusive either - you don't have to choose one or the other.

It's always good to have money because, like it or not, it can buy you (and the people you care about) a better quality of life.

But I do have a job, and can earn money for myself - if I wanted more money I could try to get a better job, or work more hours, or buy a lottery ticket!

When I meet a man i don't want to be thinking about his bank balance - I want to be thinking about whether we get n, whether he's caring and kind, whether I enjoy being with him, and whether there is good chemistry. So I think it's important for women to earn their own money, and then they don't need to act like gold diggers and men might trust us all more!

A man deffo! I'd rather grow old with my love and happy, than alone in a mansion. Yes money makes life easier, but I'd rather have less money and be with a man who treated me right and we both love each other.

followtheblackrabbit agony auntMoney. Nothing like a good wad of cash to make out with, cook for, watch movies with, and have as a passionate tango partner...rawr! I'm going with the cliche answer here: love. When I die, I want to know that I had found my soulmate and left behind children who were the result of our love...I'd want to take the sight of his love-filled eyes with mr. Sure money makes one very comfortable but I do love the image of a dark-haired intellectual and I strolling hand in hand into the sunset much, much better lol

The Realist agony auntI would have to say that the importance lies in finding balance between the two. I would say that love is more important but I would never be happy if I never hung out with friends.
