Your grandmother and his grandmother are first degree cousins, so that means with your BF you are 3rd degree cousins.

reader, anonymous, writes (12 March 2010): this is an interesting topic. Seems people consider 1st, 2nd and maybe even 3rd cousins family.
I feel the reason is that these are small familys that are living close together so ae around eachother alot.
Myself personally, I come from a huge family with 9 aunts and uncles, 26 cousins on my mums side and 14 aunts and uncles, 31 cousins on my dads.
So i dont personally count second cousins as anything. nevermind a 3rd.
So i guess its upto you really, but there is plenty off genetic difference there, so its no biggie
