Well one of his sisters passed away and so his other sister and brother talked about them all getting a tattoo that their sister had. Well it got me thinking that I want a tattoo too. I mean i've always wanted one, but now that it's possible the whole family's doing it, i thought i could to. I know i'm only 15, but my parents i think are willing to let me get one at 16. The tattoo i want is just the initials of one of my all time favorite bands whom i know i will always love in a heart with a little rose next to it like on my ankle. This is the problem, i told my friends about, and instead of telling me hey great idea or sounds cool, they all told me i was going to regret it. I don't know why, cuz if for some crazy reason when i get older i don't like the band anymore, they're saying i'll be upset i got the tattoo. I think that if that ever happens I'll just think of it as something that's a memory of the past. Even my mom was telling me i'd regret it. I guess what i'm asking is what are people's opinions on this? Is it really a bad idea to get a tattoo like that? Would i truly honestly regret it? What would YOU do?Thanks :)

A butterfly at 16 can look like a vulture at 50 so remember location, location, location.

Yes I forgot to mention it so I will just branch off of what [revious poster said about not getting spouses in tattoos. I love my wife and daughter more than myself, but they will be a symbol in a a tattoo. I will not put their names or anything like that. Just a sighn that means them, and I only I know, unless explained. It will be about my protection over them.
You should not ever get your significant other tattood.

Your friends and your mom are right to warn you about regretting something that will be permanent, "immortalized" on your body forever. Before getting my tattoos, it took me a long time to figure out what kind of designs I want inked on my skin. I never tried to rush things because spontaneous tattoos will likely make me regret them. All my tattoos (3 in total) are very personal and reflect my identity. It's not some design that I picked up and thought was cool. They all signify something and reveal a bit of myself. No matter what, my tattoos will always hold an importance and meaning to me because they are part of me. Am I making any sense at all? What I'm trying to say is that, think very hard about the designs you want. Things that you like are bound to change, so it's a bad idea to permanently inked them on your skin. However, designs that are extremely personal, ones that reveal things about yourself are justified since they become part of who you are. For instance, family members (not including spouses), birthday, astrological sign, etc. Besides, it's much better to have a unique design that only you will have; then that tattoo will definitely be yours alone. Do research, talk to artists, and contemplate about what you really want to get...it will be worth it at the end.

I wouldn't get one, but I don't think there's anything wrong with tattoos.
If you DO decide to get a tattoo, make sure that the place is reputable, safe and clean and that the artist is good, and understands what you want. You have to consider your health. There are reputable tattoo places, but you have to be picky.
Here are some articles that you should take a look at regarding how to pick out a place:

If I had to get a tattoo, I would definitely get one of a horse. I've loved horses since I was 5 years old... that's a long time. It's a safe bet that I'll love horses forever. A band, on the other hand? Favorite bands come and go. Trust me. :-)
From your post it sounds like you have reservations about getting a tattoo. If you decide to wait, it will always be an option for you. There's no deadline by which you have to decide.

Tattoos I think are okay if they really, really mean something. Like your family for their sister. My brother and sister-in-law got one of their childs feet prints after she passed away. Getting a tattoo of a band is very jeuvenile and a mistake. I don't like any of the same music, let alone bands that I liked three years ago. Please consider deeply before acting. These are permanent. I plan on getting one of my duties for the army, and my love for my wife and daughter. People undoubtedly need to reach the age of 18 at least and have truely found themselves before they get permanent marks on their bodies.

Getting a tattoo is something you have to know you want or else you really will regret it.
If you are 100% sure you want this then and your parents agree then go for it. :)
But a little bit of a warning, the feet/ankle is one of the worst spots to get it cause it hurts so much more then if you got the tattoo somewhere else.
Also do your research on it and make sure you are aware of who is doing your tattoo. Get some info on them.
Good Luck!
