El Dente agony auntI dont know much about dieting and I'm a guy so i'm probably not the best person to give you advice on this but i went vegetarian for new years (for my gf) and i've lost weight since, not too much but you do notice. I eat LOTS even for a guy and going veggie is a great way to loose weight. Remember to do lots of excercise too! swimming and fencing are among the best ways to lose weight and keep healthy.

PM me if you want to talk any more...

O Connor agony auntwell the best thing to do is eat everything in moderation. have a healthy brekkie ie special k, home made smoothie, something like a salad for lunch and whatever for dinner. if you fry alot of your food, try grilling or poaching it instead. also, excercise is a neccesity, even goin for a 30 min walk in the evening. try and cut down on fizzy drinks, snacks, sugary foods etc. another trick is if you drink alot of tea - which i did, replace it with a herbal tea. i drink citrus green tea which i have found really good and detoxifying. i have loads more tips and help if you wanna email me, good luck hun xxx

A female reader, shandygirl United States +, writes (29 January 2008):

shandygirl agony auntI went on a diet and lost 40 pounds. It was a low sugar and low carbohydrate diet. Plus of course, excersize.

The theory to stay away from foods that raise your blood sugar level too high.... Such as White Rice, anything made with rice, anything made with white flour, sugar ( no more than 3grams a serving), white potatoes, corn, anything made with corn, (corn is used to fatten farm animals)

Stay with foods that are natural, not processed.

It is similar to the diet that "Diabetic" people have to follow. Check it out! It worked for me.

A female reader, Sams_WonderWoman United States +, writes (29 January 2008):

Sams_WonderWoman agony auntJust don't load up on lots of sugar. When you do, it will be turned to fat. Your liver is the organ that stores excess sugar and fat. When you over-do fat, it stores it in the fat cells, and the sugar is stored in glycogen cells. Your body has less of those, so when it runs out, the liver will chemically turns the sugar to fat! And when you over-do it with any carbs like bread and pasta, that too will go to fat.

If you eat protein, it will keep you fuller longer. Those diet drinks like "Slim Fast" is so loaded with sugar, and you get hungry and jittery...that's is what happens to me. I found that a high-protein drink mix, the kind you find at health food store or at Wal-Mart, will keep you fuller longer without the jitters. Just make sure that you eat a healthy dinner.

Find an exercise routine that fits your life-style. There are good exercise videos out there to your liking. I heard that there is a Belly Dance exercise video which targets the stomach muscles. I heard that the singer Shakira uses that to keep her figure....she's only 5 feet tall and has to exercise because she likes food a lot!!

I think the best diet is eating lots of fruits and vegetables along with protein and carbs. Plus drink plenty of water. Take your body weight and divide that number by 1/2 and the total will be the ounces of water you need each day to keep your body running normal....(an example)100/2= 50.

I hope that helps you.

A female reader, nailglitter18 Iceland +, writes (29 January 2008):

nailglitter18 agony aunttry eating fewer breads, pastas, chips and such. If you cut back on "junk foods" then it should be fairly easy for your body to maintain its NATURAL weight.

Natural is all you should strive to be. Feel good, don't worry about how you look. Easier said than done, I know, but we all need to work on it! :)

A female reader, hlskitten United Kingdom +, writes (29 January 2008):

hlskitten agony aunt'Diets' dont really work. Calorie counting works better. Depends how tall you are, age etc etc. A good site to use thats free is sparkpeople . com. Lots of tips and advice in their forums, and you can type in your height and weight and how much you want to lose and over what period of time, and they set you a plan. But diets never work. Eating a balanced diet within the recommended calories per day for your statistics and goals is way more succesful.

Obviously along with exercise.

Give that site a go. I was well impressed with it and it worked for me last year. I didnt have a clue about calories before i went on there!
