I wish he would use the word beautiful instead but he doesnt seem to ever going to say it. Please help me understand the meaning of cute from a guy to a girl. What i usually thought of the word cute is 'ugly but acceptable'. What do you think? Thank you Reply to this Question Share |

I got into this on another forum. I said women should not call men cute or adorable because that is for people who are much younger than you. I find Cute to be the Junior high version of beautiful. So I would say at your age you want to be beyond cute. but what is important is what he means when he says it, and to a lesser degree What you think when you hear it.
You Should probably, just once, ask him to explain what he means by cute in about 30 words. Not so much fishing for complements but discovering what about you attracts him. You could do the same for him.

Cute is a POSITIVE word. It's adorable + pretty + funny = cute.
In my book. I'd rather be called cute, then pretty. Because pretty is mainly about the PHYSICAL APPEARANCE whereas cute is about looks AND personality.
Maybe for you cute is like a pug. (the dog breed) that is so ugly you can't help going awwwww that is cute. But I don't think it ever has a negative vibe. And I certainly think your interpretation of the word cute.. is WAY off base.
It's a COMPLIMENT. ENJOY IT. Stop overthinking a compliment.

Cute is cute, it's a positive word, not a negative one. I call my boyfriend cute because he makes cute faces sometimes and does cute things, even thought he's as masculine and big as they come... Cute doesn't mean anything bad at all. I get called cute a lot too, when I do cute things or act cute, which can sometimes mean a little bit playful and maybe kid-like, but adults do need to keep some of the child in them in order to have fun ;)
Im thinking your boyfriend is nervous to call you beautiful, just because it's a word not so commonly used. Cute is a safer way to express that you like someone, whereas calling them beautiful can feel scary at first, because they're not used to using that word. Even if he does find you beautiful.

Babies are cute...puppies are cute. attractice cuddly young girls are cute. Never heard ugly in the same sentance as cute. But I get your point. Your bf is simply immature and has no other word for your looks as being very attractive to him.

However he calls me cute most of the time. Like my mannerisms or if I pull a silly face when concentrating. I think it is deeper than being called beautiful as the word cute encompasses all of you. Personality and looks. Cute doesn't mean ugly at all.
In the dictionary: cute - attractive in a pretty and endearing way

BABY DUCKS ARE CUTE... that's what I used to say.
I think my husband is CUTE... he tells me that's a term for GIRLS...
we all bring our own baggage to words.
I am short 5'2" and I want to be BEAUTIFUL... I had to accept that as a short girl, I am more CUTE than stunning... does not mean I am ugly. I am not.
But I am not a classic beauty.

To me, cute means you find that person attractive. Most young men I know would choose a word like cute or hot rather than beautiful, but they all effectively mean the same thing.

wow...you have very strange interpretation of the word cute! Where in the hell does ugly come into being cute??? I have been called cute my whole life...all 5 feet of me! I love it! Puppies are cute, little kittens are cute..whats wrong with being cute?? For me, I know I don't have model looks, I'm not 6 feet tall with long legs, and I don't want to be. Cant help with this one..but there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with being called cute!

A guy once told me that "cute" is their safest answer because it could mean: A) they really think you're pretty but don't want to feed your ego or reveal that they really like you. B) it could mean that they just see you as a friend and even if you're prettier than that, they won't say so if they don't want to mislead you to thinking he has a thing for you. I feel the same way about hearing "cute" bec. I feel its only used for cute dogs or babies! ?? So, take it as a complement. Guys will say beautiful if they really mean it too but then they use it to score a girl in bed. So, take your pick. But if you want an honest answer from your guy, don't judge him after or treat him differently coz u asked for what he really meant as cute. Guys never want to hurt a girl's feelings. At least nice guys don't but they will be honest with you if you asked for honesty.
