Dear Aunts,

OK, so I hear this word get thrown around a lot to describe men.

1. One time my coworker said to be aware of my manager because he was sharp. He used to eye me a lot. Whaa?

2. A male friend told me that my crush was sharper than a machete. Huh?

Anyways , I looked up on the web and I am getting all kinda answers.. So what does this word really mean? And is it a good thing?

Thanks

CindyCares agony aunt "Sharp " is used, informally, also to mean " sly, cunning " and that may apply to the manager .

The crush : well dressed, and/or, by extension, cool, hip,

Youcannotbeserious agony auntSadly words change meaning over the years. I remember not so long ago the very young generation using "bad" to mean "really good" for instance!

Why don't you just ask the people who used "sharp" in this context what they meant?

Either it means someone is clever or has a sharp tungue like a knife cutting with his words. I suppose it depends in what cotext it is said .

Honeypie agony auntI guess in these two instances it meant he has good game? That he is charming? Good with words? (maybe not n actions)

The BEST way to find out what these two people meant is to ASK these two people.

Sharp for me means one of two things:

GOOD dresser or highly clever (be it business savvy or street smart) - but I don't think that fits in the two examples. So to get to the bottom - ask the guys who USED the term.
