Silly people,
Valentines is for girls. Guys are much too stressed trying to take care of their female friends to relax and enjoy a gift. If you give them a gift it just makes them feel awkward. So just forget about buying something for him.
If he manages to make an acceptable, or better yet exceptional offering, you can think up a way to reward him. Don't worry about planning it for that day. Traditionally you have a full month to come up with something. Generally it should involve food, (preferably steak) and some sort of personal physical gratification.

You could get him some valentines day boxers or a picture frame with a picture of you two. You don't want to spend too much and it's better to go with something cute or funny rather than serious.

At your age and the short time frame that your relationship has been so far, I would not think it appropriate to spend over £10 on him.
A card and something cute like special valentines chocolate or a cute teddy, something that says you care. I think anything more than that gives the impression that you would rather spend money than have to think about what to buy.
When I was 17/18 I and my friends bought our boyfriends a cheeky card and some kind of baked good or chocolate, remember the way to a guys heart is through his stomach! :-)

Im not sure how much you want to spend, but you can't go wrong with a bottle of aftershave, Million Gold is quite popular, as is cool water, or Joop to name just a few. Or something cheaper you could go for maybe boxer shorts or socks with hearts on them, or Maybe a CD with some love songs, or a personalised mug.
Hope this helps
