I always wonder why women ask medical questions on this site....you really should be discussing this with your doctor.
The general treatment for cramps is taking anti-inflammatory medication a week or do before the onset of your period as it is the inflammatory response of the uterine lining being sloughed off that causes the cramps in most cases.
Sometimes there is an underlying reason with the anatomy of your reproductive parts.....not hormones....the body during menstruation changes in order to produce the normal period....so horomnes are something you don't mess with. Sometimes taking a birth control pill will make the hormones more balanced and you will have lighter periods with less cramping....but only take those if nothing else works or of course if you are sexually active.
To get the medical reason behind your cramps, read the article at the link above and go see your doctor, there is no reason to suffer through your periods like this...you have the option to take some medications to help you.

You may have a hormonal imbalance, many times this causes PMS and severe cramps. Go to a doctor who specializes in NATURAL hormone therapy. I say natural because many doctors want to give you synthetic hormones, but you're much better off with natural hormone replacement since it is very similar to what your body produces.

It's caused by prostaglandin[the chemical in your body that makes the smooth muscles in your uterus contract]. The muscles that do this are alson involuntary so that's why you can't control them. I recommend 2 aleves or just an 800 pill, eat something and place a heating pad where you feel it hurts and watch a movie to keep your mind off of it. That always works for me =]
