I know the best thing to do is nothing, but I'd love to reply with something to totally put him in his place. Anyone have any ideas?

Hmm. Exes are very odd. They don't seem to understand that after they have broken your heart that you are not interested in their thoughts on life and their happenings. If you were interested, you would ask. They don't seem to get that idea.
I would just email him back and say thanks for the updates but you are not really interested and feel that it is a bit inappropriate considering things have changed and moved on.
See how that goes.
