We met online and she said she would meet me if I vote for her (she's a model)...

Question - (12 August 2008) 15 Answers - (Newest, 4 November 2008)
A male United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

A couple of months ago I started chatting to a lovely girl (well, she seemed lovely!) on a general chat site, and she gave me her email address.

We started chatting on Yahoo! Chat, for a while, and then she said she wanted to meet. I agreed, but then she said only if I 'vote' for her (she's a nude model apparently). I did it once, and then it happened time and time again.

I said to myself no more, but she kept persuading me, she kept telling me she loved me, and wants to be with me, but we cant meet until I vote.

When I said I wouldn't once, she wanted me to donate money to a charity, which, to my surprise, I said no to.

She got me to vote again today, and when I sign up and get the email and log in with my username and password, apparently I have to give her a subscription ID so she can look me up - 3 times I tried, it worked, got the email, logged in, emailed her the subscriprion ID, 3 times she said she couldn't trace it.

I feel extra stupid as I work with computers and know about these things.

She even has a Facebook profile.

Fortunately, I cancelled the subscriptions.

I can't afford to do this. I think I know it's a con, but what do other readers think?

PsyCookie agony auntOk, what is that you want us to tell you? That she's real and that she wants you?

People who con others will make their online lives as real as posible. Accept that. She's not real and even if she actually is, then she's just doing everything for the money. Everyone has told you she's a con. I don't understand why you're still trying to question that logic.

Emaz help agony auntThis person may have just made up a fake facebook to make the scenario look real

You never know

I always read peoples comments to see if they're real, if they're real then they'll have people saying things like 'hi babes, ill phone you later to catch up' things like that which makes it seem real and if they're fake they'll have comments like 'hi you added me, do i no u?'

if you get me

She's even got a Facebook profile, she told me she was at Maidstone, and there's websites with her pictures on. Are these genuine; why is she lying, and why does she say things like 'I don't want money'!!

Thankyou people. I had a suspicion it was a con - yeah, and the anonymous reader is right - she can't love me, and yes, she did tell me she has family abroad, and that she's in Maidstone - what about the Facebook thing?

PsyCookie agony auntSounds like a con to me too. Too suspicious. Sorry for the incident; I know some of us would like to date a model.

You could do what aphexinfinite suggested, but in my opinion, I don't think nothing happen (since it just sounds like a con). But still, good luck.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (12 August 2008):

yeah this is a con, i have experienced this myself and am often on the net pulling women (i do not need the lecture) and have wide experience of this and this con trick is so old.

It is a total con and you must be pretty guliable to have fallen for it.

Let me guess, she apparently lives in the same country as you but has family or origins abroad? That is normally how it works, or maybe that treat is to come for you.

I am amazed that anyone ever falls for this, when it was tried on me i laughed and thought, "why do they do it, it is so obvious and they cannot make any money surely."

You have just answered the "why do they" question for me, they do it because it works on some real daft and desperate people.

Emaz help agony auntYes

it definately sounds like a con and that she's just using you for 'votes'

Models will do anything to get noticed or be famous

She's taken you for a mug and you should have realised what she was doing

in the future i'd advice you to think twice about these things and also not talk to this girl again

Also, how can she love you when she's never met you?
