A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

So I just want to know if this is considered picking up a guy from a bar?

There is a guy I have met but don't know too well. He is a friend of a friend. I have met him before, sat on the same table and had dinner.

On my friend's birthday I hooked up with him. We kissed and a little more but didn't have sex. I trusted him to get close because he was somebody we knew.

So my friend said "I picked him up from a bar." So what do you think?

Sageoldguy1465 agony auntA "bar" is an establishment which has less than 50% of its income from food. (otherwise it's an "eating establishment").... at least that's so in many states....

So.. did you encounter this guy at a place that has more than 50% of it's revenue from food? .... or MORE than 50% from food..... IF it's the former.... then you met him in a "restaurant" or "eating establishment"; IF the latter, then you "met him (encountered him) in a "bar"...

Now... here's the most important "question": What difference does it make where you met or encountered him?.... AND, why does it make even a smidgen of difference to your "friend" ... OR YOU??????

Good luck.... (with this "friend")!!!!

N91 agony auntPicking up someone from the bar, is when it's a complete random, so no, this isn't a case of that.

xTheAlmightyDuckx agony auntYou met him with your friend and had dinner with him.

That isn't picking someone up from a bar.

Normally picking someone up from a bar is more like : Going out for a drink, meet a random person you've never met before, and go back and have sex.

As you partially knew him and you didn't go back to yours to simply have sex then no it isn't picking up someone from a bar.

Its finding someone who is as interested in you, as you are in them.

anon_e_mouse agony auntNope. Not if you have history. Even small history like being a friend of a friend, siting at the same table for dinner once.

The difference is he is not a complete stranger. You might not know each other well but the fact he is a friend of a friend and you have met before means more than a complete stranger.

You just bumped into this guy you met before in a bar and hooked up.

You're friend who said you picked him up in a bar is jealous.

Period.
