I don't have enough work experience to get references from anyone, so i am looking to do a voluntary job that doesn't require references, and then use the employer from the voluntary job as a reference for any future jobs. I know you need references for some care jobs. Any advice would be much appreciated. Reply to this Question Share |

it depends on where you live, i live a very rural place and the only place i can volunteer is at a charity shop, so i guess that could be an option for you.

Hello,
My first thought was something like Church groups or Scouting or Guide groups. Say, go along to the Salvation Army or The Church of England and speak to the "person in charge" (Rector or Officer) and explain you are interested and more than prepared for them to use your services. You may need to agree to a CRB check but that's normal in today's society. Hope all goes well.

You can always use a long standing friend, for a personal one.Best site is do-it.org.uk

Some volunteer work here in Australia requires a police clearance, but not many actually ask for previous workplace references.
Try your local op shop, your historical society, church groups, hospital, animal shelter, crisis lines, library, and any other community groups such as youth groups and community gardens.
I never found work through my volunteering but I did gain skills that were transferable. Good luck with the volunteering and also with finding work in the future.
