writes: My period is very, very late. It's been 40 days since my last one. I've not had unprotected sex, and the condoms were tested after sex for keeping the semen in. We have always been careful- even overly careful.I have taken 4 pregnancy tests, all of which showed me as negative. 2 of these tests were ClearBlue, which are said to be the best and most efficient tests out there. I did it properly and dipped it into a cup of my undiluted urine, so the negatives aren't due to misuse of the tests. Now, I've recently (Sunday the 3rd of September) moved to a big city from loving in a small town- I'm used to being with my mum every day but now I only spend two nights a week in what I consider my proper home. Not only that, I'm doing totally different courses this year, and trying to find my way around a new, big city and a new place of education.I've been stressing about all this as well as stressing about the possibility of pregnancy. I know stress can have an effect on periods but how much of an effect? Please can you help me? I really need some assurance- desperately.xxx

I've been in the same position as you and was convinced I was pregnant. Turned out that with all the stress of a new job, my partner being made redundant and having to move away from home for a 3 month residential course etc etc, my homones were playing tricks with me.
Stress can have a serious effect on your periods as I found out and it took a fair old while for mine to reappear (strangely enough when my other half found a job and things were a lot less stressful).
Trust in the pregnancy tests. I myself did four and they all came back negative. The repeated use of tests may show that, like me, you're desperately not wanting to get pregnant while secretly hoping you are!! Either that or you're so worried that you may be pregnant and not wanting to be that it's exaserbating the problem.
You want to find a bit of advice, I used to be in recruitment and my partner works in adult education. We may be able to point you in the right direction.
Hope this helps, but whatever happens ... good luck xx

Hya
It sounds like it's stress causing it from everything you've said, you've had quite a bit to deal with lately. Sometimes periods can just be irregular, mine are anything from 28 to 45 days apart, which is a nightmare but I'm used to it as they've always been a bit like this for me.
I did rush off to get a test kit when I got to 45 days a few months back but like you I wasn't pregnant.
If no period in a week or two you may want to get your doctor to check you out if you're worried, are you eating properly? poor diet can also mean periods are erratic/absent I believe too.
xx

Just go to the family doctor or a local doctor to have a test done to rule out a pregnancy so you don't stress over that as well.
We are in no position to give you such medical answers to this type of concern.
