A female South Africa age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hi there!

I've been with this guy for about a year and everything seems right. I was with him a couple of weeks back and we were discovering each other. He didnt go inside me, but by the time we finished, i was on my way home i was bleeding. I thought it is was my period but it wasn't because the nxt day there was no bleeding. It happened twice (that i bleed just like that.)

The first time he penetrated me i never bled, so now im scared that he is going to think that i was faking my virginity. He knows about the bleeding and he never made any comment about me not bleeding, but i'm still scared that he'll never trust me because of that. It was my first time and i've never been that intimate with a guy.

Is my situation normal? (the bleeding and not bleeding?)

Ps: i don't use tampoons in case you think that's the reason why i bleed.

Many thanks to you all.

Mzbabybat agony auntumm have you ever done like gymnastics or done splits when you where younger or even recently? its perfectly possible that when you where younger and where doing those types of things your hymen had actually torn then, or stretched. that would be one reason why you didnt have any bloody show.

RitzaD. agony auntYup, its totally normal, nothing to be worried about. The hymen can be broken easily and not just by penetration, but by riding a bike, excercising etc.

It migh have happend while fooling around, and getting to know each other. Its very common.

I actually didn't bleed my first time, but till the third time, it was strange, I thought my hymen had already been broken, but guess not, since we were both new at this, we probably weren't doing it right. Lol. And I did bleed like 2 times.

And he should believe u, why wouldn't he?

Emaz help agony auntIt sounds like he broke your hymen

Don't worry this can be broken by simple things including exercise, riding a bike or dancing

Some people don't bleed during their first time because the hymen has already broken

If he doesn't believe you when you are telling the truth then should you really be with him?

This is completely normal what has happend

hope i've helped

A female reader, superrrshawna United States +, writes (12 August 2008):

superrrshawna agony auntthe hymen is the thin membrane that gets broken during a woman's first time. this is what causes the bleeding. many times it breaks over time due to just your everyday life. horseback riding, gymnastics, and in my case martial arts can cause the hymen to disintegrate over time - meaning the girl doesn't bleed her first time when she is in fact still a virgin. i didn't my first time! so no worries! it's a common occurrence. in your case, though, it sounds like you two might have broken it when you were "discovering each other."

if he doesn't make the connection, you could always tell him! good luck.
