Read the leaflet that comes in the box with the morning after pill - that explains what happens.
Basically the morning after pill works by affecting the lining of the womb so an egg cannot settle there and/or by preventing or delaying the release of an egg from the ovary.
I have taken it twice and never had a period after taking it - my period just happened at the normal time and I cant remember it being particularly heavy! The first time I took it I felt a bit sick and went dizzy, I just needed to lie down for a couple of hours. But the second time I had no side effects at all and just carried on with my usual day!
I hope this helps!

The side effects are on the packet or they should be. I took one years ago suffered with a massive headache and nausea was moody for a couple of days felt a it dizzy and spaced out but it didn't affect my period at all. Usually you take the morning after pill up too 72 hours of unprotected sex so the egg will not have met the sperm. The morning after pill is a dose or progesterone and oestrogen one stopping the egg from being produced (if it hasn't) and one stopping the sperm attaching to the egg. If you need more information you can ask your doctor. If you are having sex you should consider your birth control options also i would think about taking an sti test. Chlamydia is the Uks number 1 sti. If you have any questions feel free to ask me as my mum is a sexual health nurse.

It doesn't change your period at all but it made me a little bit edgy. I just got tired and grumpy the day that I took it. Relax, and just kick back. The side effects are very miniscule. :)

Usually the morning after pill has directions of use on the packet/leaflet.
You are meant to take it within 72 hours after sex, eat something before taking it because you will probably get nauseaous or sick. You take the first pill, then take the second pill 12 hours afterwards.
In the meantime hun, look for an alternative birth control.
