Desperate? You are 14 years old, there are many other things you should be worried about at this time.
That said, you should tell him the truth. It will come out eventually. I think he will be upset about being deceived, rather than about you being a little older.

I doubt he would care that you're older, he may even like that, and you're way too young to already be lying about your age and saying you're younger than you already are. However, don't be surprised if he happens to not be too happy in general that you would lie about something like that.

reader, anonymous, writes (31 January 2010): Why should 9 months matter? It doesn't. A difference of a year doesn't matter at all. Not even at that age. If you were 3 years older than him that's a problem. As I see it 12-15 is fine, 13-17, 15-18 (without sex), 17-21, 18-30, 20-40. Those groupings are in general accepted, although if you are at the edge of one or the other group you can find people who think the age gap is a bit too large.
