I agree with "ask Eve" on this; I would not call him; if he wants to make contact he knows where and how to get hold of you; do not chase him, if he is interested let him "chase" you; guys still, no matter how old fashioned it might sound, like to do the "hunting".
If he is not contacting you, it might mean he is just not that "into" you; you sound like a very nice person and I am sure there will be lots of guys happy to date you and to get to know you better.

 You could call him on the basis of friendship, you never know, most friendships can lead to much more, and if it doesnt at least you have gained another friend. hope this helps

 I wouldn't call him. The friend is trying to let you down gently by telling you you're not his "type". He ignores you when you're online too so read the signs! If you call him you're only asking for a let down. MOVE ON!
