Should I get it even if I won't have sex for the next 4 years? (The HPV vaccine only protects for 4 years. Do I only need it if I'm going to sleep with someone? thanks Reply to this Question Share |

Penile cancer? where are you getting your info planepocket? I see no need if you are not going to be sexually active for a a couple more years. Use condoms. Be sober and get to know your partner when that time arives.

I don't think you need this vaccine at all.I heard they tried to make this 'mandatory' for teens, but studies showed heart problems related to the vaccine. When I took my daughter in for a sports physical, the doctor was ready to sign her up for the shot. I asked isn't this for sexually active teenagers? She looked at me like I had 2 heads. This really boils my blood that doctors push vaccines, and drugs for money...Instead of complimenting my daughter, the doctor had an attitude like I should leave the room!Thankfully we still have a choice--I personally am against unneeded vaccines because of the mercury or whatnot in them. This is YOUR body, and your choice. Some doctors are open-minded, some are rude, YOU have the choice to pick who You want. They are not God, and many drug companies fund doctor schooling. Pick one you feel very comfortable with, and cares and listens to you, instead of pushing drugs. (a doctor that practices both modern and alternative medicine is usually good)take care of you:)

HPV also causes penile, anal, skin and oral cancers and can be passed by skin to skin contact without intercorse. It is important for girls/women and boys/men to get vaccinated and if you get it you are protecting yourself and any future partners.

It is effective against 4 types of HPV, two of which cause 70% of cervical cancer. I just got my first vaccination and I am almost 18. You can't get it after age 25, so you might as well get it now and get it over with, along with your Hep B shots too. I hate needles but I know that I have to get it done now to protect myself. My boyfriend and I are confirmed STD free, but suppose we break up? Suppose you decide to have sex for the first time spur of the moment...Sure condoms help, but some HPV is transfered skin-to-skin, around pubic hair....do you want to risk it? Protect yourself now. There is no good excuse to not just do it.

I am 22 and wish! They had that vaccine when I was your age!
I was sexually active at your age. When I was 18 I got HPV. I didn't even know what it was. At that time they didn't talk about it.
I had only one person that i was with and got it from him. Men carry the virus but aren't affected by it. They can pass it on to a girl and she will have all the symptoms.
The vaccine not only protects you from hpv but from cervical cancer!
You don't plan on having sex in the next 4 years but most people don't ever plan on their first time.
If it was me or someone I cared about I would want them to get it just in case.
I was lucky. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being cervical cancer, I was an 8. Somehow it went away on its own and I am fine now.
My advice, do it to protect yourself! Talk to your mom about it seeing as how its a 3 shot treatment and can have side effects and can cost a little bit of money!
Good luck!
