It's hard when you are shy too. You just don't have the guts to talk to him.
However, if you want to be free from him, and take away that intense feeling, maybe rejection is the best thing. It will help you move on, even if it is a bitter sweet feeling. Yet, there is also the other possibility. He might like you.
Be the stronger one of us. Try to talk to him first, get to know him, be friends and try to get what you want. Find it somewhere, it time.

i had the exact same thing.
just tell him because at the end of the day, what is the worst that can happen. he may reject you, if so. move on and learn from your mistakes. thats all really
