What about in the case of an accident where one becomes disabled? Or in the cases of military couples and one goes off for a tour of duty? Or if the couple decides to move due to a job offer and one of the individuals does not know anyone in the area? Not all shifts in power happen because of a negative action on one person's part.

Illness, job loss, affair, money, children. The list is endless. Just about any little problem that you can think of can turn into a power shift depending on the circumstances.
